The new mag is xbl :D

This is shaping up to be kind of like a RL-p w/XBL, similar power handling and ideal enclosure size. I'm looking forward to hearing reviews, can always appreciate an efficient driver.

I'm sorry if this was already asked, how much of this technology is going to make it down to the bm's? I mean, its obvious it won't be on par with the mag, that'd just make NO sense from a business standpoint. But will we see similar numbers from the bm, at possibly a lower power handling level?
The BM's are going to be a step down from the Mag in every respect. Power handling is lower than a Mag, output will be less than a Mag, etc. As of now the BM's design does not use XBL^2, as the BM design is totally different. I'll release more info on the BM's in due time. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Groovy, thanks for the info! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Just curious but is it going to be manufactured by Scott?
He doesn't want to fool with licensing fees anymore....split coil is his toy. There are lots of buildhouses capable of building these.

I doubt it will be anything like the RL-p, but it should be good.

boo for 12's only. Was thinking about 2 new Mag 15's but will now keep my current 15 Mags(wanted to use a smaller box). Still can't wait to hear the reviews once released
I'm sure Nick will come out with a few other sizes later. The 12" model is, by far, the most popular. Nick is a very meticulous guy, he will have to prototype and listen to each size and tweak it as needed to get the exact results he requires -- not just putting a larger cone and basket on //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif If you notice on the "old" Mag 15s the spiders were actually different compliance units than the 12s.

Like Jake said, if a 15" version makes its way into the lineup it will be a completely re-designed unit, not just a 15" cone slapped into the existing motor. Every time I make a different size speaker, the driver starts off with a brand new drawing board. I do have preliminary drawings for a 15" though, and it follows in the same footsteps as the new Mag 12 (small box, great output, phenomenal SQ). //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The real issue at hand is when do i get to see/play with it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
And why hasnt nick called me in months, //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif:crying://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif
not even .........the real real issue is...y havent i been considered to part of the demo ring that went on yrs ago?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif:crying://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

It'll still handle some abuse - it just won't handle the extreme abuse that the current Mag's handle.
im assuming it wont handle the extreme abuse due to it having a 2.5 inch coil

so thermaly it cant take the same treatment(abuse) as a 3 inch coil with the same amount of layers..correct?

Potentially not as much as the 3" coil assuming same gauge, winding height, and number of layers. There are a lot of variables to be accounted for and thermal limits should really only be an issue for SPL competition...most drivers of any topology will approach mechanical limits in the appropriate daily enclosure long before thermal limits become a big concern.

Who said anything about it having a 2.5" coil? The new Mag's will still use a 3" diameter coil. The winding length is going down a lot though, which is one of the reasons why thermal power handling is going down.

I referenced the IDMax with a 2.5" coil, but never said the Mag's were going to have a 2.5" coil. I just said the new Mag's inductance is going to be crazy low. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

*edit* I just re-read my post on page four and I can see where you got that from. The new Mag's will have a 3" diameter coil. Sorry about the confusion.

Dang as if it wasn't hard enough to decide on a sub before. Guess I got even more reason to wait some more now. Any updates on when these will become available to the average person for?
