**The MLB Thread**

That is there era when the game is close and late. Another words the Era when the team is up or down by 1 or 2 runs, maybe even 3, late in the game which is considered to be 7th inning on iirc. I told you there bullpen is good when it needs to be.

I was talking about overall bullpen stats. I didnt know you were talking about it in a close ball game. That is really not what we originally started talking about or at least that is not what I thought we were talking about.

Also I wouldnt even call Sidney Ponson medicore at best.

We were talking about overall, but then I began breaking things down and giving you reasons why the ERA doesn't reflect the ability of the personel in the bullpen. Stats can lie, you want to know how your bullpen really performs, well whats a better measurement than when the game is on the line late in the game? When you throw a relief pitcher in a game with a big lead or when you're being blown out, as a pitcher you are just trying to throw strikes. So that will in turn lead to the ball getting hit more so than if you were in a tight situation and being more selective of your pitches.

Oh well I wasnt trying to get into all that. I see your points on that certain subject though. I would still take last years bullpen over this years though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Ozzie Gullien is a joke show. He is so caught up in his glory. I loved that he left Travis Hafner off the all star team yet he said if another infielder was to make it, it would have been Joe Crede. Lame I tell ya, just lame. I mean Crede is having his best year, but an allstar, please!

http://sports.aol.com/mlb/story/_a/ballpark-figures-hafners-snub-a-joke/20060710210009990001

and of course you are going to say im saying this because im a Sox fan...but I have never seen an infielder with a vaccume like he has....I havent seen him DIVE at a ball this year and miss. its amazing. and he has a cannon.

EDIT: Didnt know hafners position..though you were comparing 3rd basemen. Werent there already like 5 DH's on the team?

2nd Edit: That article is OBVIOUSLY made from a hater of Ozzy.

"First he embarrassed a rookie pitcher - a kid - for not intentionally plunking a hitter (Gee, Oz, maybe he isn’t comfortable tossing a potentially deadly object at another human being)"

When...in this history of baseball has a "baseball" ever been a deadly object......there ya go..NEVER...statement thrown out the window

B. ITS PART OF THE GAME...and I know you know that...every pitcher has been in the situation to do it...every manager has said to do it. You protect your team...and if you wouldnt, grow some balls. Why do you think they say when you get pegged "DONT RUB IT!!" cause it makes you look like a *****....yea it hurts, but obviously NOT THAT BAD.

C. Whaaa whaaa whaaa to Hafner and HIS FANS THAT DIDNT VOTE HIM IN!!! We got AJ in for Christ sake!! And I will admit...He is not an allstar, but WE.. THE FANS (how everyone else gets in the game) voted him in.

I want to know how many clutch, 9th inning home runs Hafner has hit. What did he do for his team last year. Look who started (not that its NOT UNCOMMON FOR PAULIE) the 2 out 9th inning rally in the allstar game. CLUTCH BABY.. CLUTCH!!!

Ozzie said at the beginning of the game "if some of you dont play, sorry, im trying to win this game" Rivera over Jenks....come on!!! the guy has 1 pitch...a 94MPH fastball...thats it! But what do you think would have happened if he put Jenks in...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Contreras didnt even play...HE'S 10-0!!!

Your right I am gona say its becasue you are a white sox fan. You made it pretty clear that you didnt read that whole article. It clearly states how clutch he and how is one of the most dangerous hitters in the game today. Maybe he does hate ozzie gullien, who knows really, but he made many valid points. Crede is good fielder, no question about that, however you said something about how he had no errors this year earlier in the thread and the next day he commited one. I was gonna post something, but said to hell with it. Also about the fans, has alot to go about how they promote them. So on that note I guess we can blame our own fans for that. Then again Chicago is a lot bigger city wise which in turn has more fans so simple math shows you that. Then you won the world series which makes the players on your team more popular since they have more tv time. I just think Hafner to be honest with you besides maybe Thome is having a better year at the plate than anyone else on YOUR TEAM. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Id put Dye and Konerko above Thome...not saying he is far behind but....just my opinion.

About Crede, I only said I havent seen him Dive and miss a ball yet this year. he is an incredible fielder though.

Yes chicago is a lot bigger, but we also have the cubs...who everyone loves, and always will. And of course the added support of the Sox this year helped a ton.

And again... I think there were like already 5 DH's on the team....some a which arent nearly as good as Thome, so yell at them first.

Clutch hitting...The sox were the #1 team last year (in 1 run games), and probably pretty dam close this year with 1 run games...a lot of it had to do with Konerko...granted the W doesnt come with out the rest of the team, and great pitching. Not saying that Hafner isnt just as good, but how much do those games count...I dont know, i dont watch his team, or him
