The Great 15" Challenge

I think those people are more advising that the validity of the test will be in question, not so much whether or not he should do it.
Yes, that is what I meant. They are advising him against it because of how he will be running the experiment.

My input on the whole impedance problem people brought up is this:
If the HDC3 has a 1.8 ohm load during testing while a HW has a 1.2... It looks to me like the HDC3 needs to be rethought in terms of what impedance are available to the customer. Or likewise.

This test to me is just what subs are top in NORMAL everyday setups. Which means about 95 percent of all these subs being sold will be put in a normal ported box for daily listening to a person who could care less about impedance rise.... let alone know what it is...

EXAMPLE!

If the results show the HW is 1 db louder than a HDC3 and it also shows a .5 ohm impedance difference in the two... THAT SHOWS THAT IN A DAILY TYPICAL INSTALLATION THE HW WILL BE LOUDER! Because it has a better approach to impedance issues which means its a better driver in that area... Or likewise...

The tests are a typical installation in a daily typical setup.

im not understanding what you mean by impedance rise.

i'll give you some examples:

impednace rise in terms of freuqncy shows indutance acting on the system

impedance rise in terms of time shows theraml compressoin

impedance rise in terms of system alignment shows peaks and nulls and where current is going to be high or low.

you may have a 1 ohm sub and i may have a 8 ohm sub and my 8 ohm sub might have lower impedance at 35Hz in the same box meaning i will pull more power.... so my point is.... dont worry about it!!!!!

Bumpin, you should at least take note that intelligent people are advising you against the test ( Fi Car Audio, squeak, DevilDriver,nG, Kyle Keating, John_E_Janowitz, lilmaniac2, etc.)
And the "noobs" (in comparison with the previous names mentioned) think it's a great idea.

It's sounds like a good idea to me, but when I have 5+ people more intelligent than myself advising me against something I would probably heed some of their advise.
what makes them intelligent?

I don’t know seems like a lot of stress for bumpin. I said I would let him keep the drivers due to the fact he has to buy a bunch of sheets of wood, build the boxes, set the vehicle up, spend countless hours testing and recording as much data as he can.

He isn’t in this to make money but it would be nice to cover some of his expense. I do not expect anything for nothing. Of course nothing in his testing is absolute but I am sure he will do his best to make it as accurate as possible and as fair as possible.

You can take the data he finds anyway you want. You can find it as informative or say it’s just a bunch of BS. Nobody is going to say this is the holy grail of subwoofer testing and you should buy only the subwoofers that test the best. 99% of tests are subjective in one way or another.

But to attempt to convince or sway or tell him he is ignorant to do something he wants to do is ignorant in itself.

A speaker I send in that I have plenty of guys over 160db does only 146db will I be mad? Nah it’s just a test.

Yeah, that kid clearly has no idea what he's talking about...

This thread has gotten out of hand with members/mods shitting all over it. I am taking it somewhere else. I forgot CA wouldnt be mature enough to just take a test for what it is and stop looking so **** far into it.
Here was my original hypothesis write up:

Hypothesis:

"I feel certain subwoofers will benefit in smaller enclosures while others benefit from the larger enclosures. Overall this will give a good representation of how each subwoofer performs overall and how each can handle the power given to them. I do not see any one subwoofer dominating the field"

Because most of you havent actually read the important parts of this thread there is the purpose of the test, not to just compare one sub to another.

Well I am waiting on one of the real mods to close this thread, looks like I may be waiting a while though.
So, you start a thread about a bad idea on a public forum, in which you knowingly leave it open to public scrutiny, you ignore the generally good advice given by several knowledgeable members such as John & Kyle, get upset when people point out it's a bad idea, not very useful and generally a waste of time as outlined, and then you try to throw a fit and want to take your (deflated) ball and go home?

Yes that is exactly what I am doing. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Thank you kind sir, Im going to go home with my (deflated) ball now.

Yup, it seems as if Buick is the one not being mature about this.

And what's up w/ the sad face after saying he will volunteer his own time and money. I thought that was a given.

I can see how in my frustration I could have come off as immature but all i have been doing is trying to help companies grow. I have worked with several companies and this is one more way for me to help out. No one seems to understand the point of these tests or the fact that I am aware they will not be accurate, on the dot. I understand this, that is not nor ever was the intentions of my testing.

The interesting thing is the company owners understand this as I have talked it over with them all several times, well respected competitors understand the concept behind the testing such as Ed Lester/howie/justin, and many more people who know much more about this then I could ever imagine.

I know Lilmaniac warned be about this but by looking over the past 390 posts, I have found a good majority of the complaints, arguements, and bashing to come from people who have no credible source, other then a few having mod status or a post count in the 5/6 digit range. I have admin status on forums but that makes me no more credible the the new members with 2 posts.

What makes me credible is I have worked directly with several of the companies, I have competed in DBdrag, Usaci, and MECA. I have done dozens of SPL builds and am well known in the great lakes region. I am not here to make money and now that I look back on that I could have written that out better, I was simply trying to imply that the subs that I was told I could keep would nearly pay for the MDF. All subwoofers will be returned to their rightful companies, not because this site has heckled me into that but because I dont want any other companies to feel as though another had an advantage by allowing me to keep their equipment.

This is my last post on this thread, I am sure many of you will think of me as immature for walking away but all the companies have agreed that some of these posts are just out of hand and this will all be moved on to other forums were companies and myself will be able to control them. If anyone needs any information or has any questions please PM me.

I am sorry to cause a ruckus on CA.com.

I would so much like to post something constructive here but I'm afraid of getting tarred and feathered too.

To those of you who are so quick to dismiss this test, why not offer up some suggestions on how he could make it more "credible"? And yes, this sort of testing can be made credible with a little guidance.

Matt, PM me and I'll throw some ideas your way...

Best,

Mark
