The Great 15" Challenge

No offense to the OP, but this guy seems to know what he is talking about, and if he is just up the road from you and willing to help out I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss his opinion. The truth is, you do need some kind of standards for measurement if you want this to be anything more than a fun afternoon and forgotten web post.
I didn't mean to come off as dismissive to John. I know his where abouts and when the time comes for testing Im sure I will be in contact with him. I will also be in contact with several other people as well. I plan to have about 5 people present at any given time. I am experienced with car audio but by no means a know it all. I am very aware if it as well so sorry if I came off offensive, ive just gotten a lot of PMs that have been nothing but negative and I thought I would clear it up publicly.

Why is it when someone disagree's with you dumb nig nogs we are called "haters"??? could it be you just have a stupid idea? (not implying anything bb, please dont take it that way. comment is JUST for DRAB here.)
I know its not intended for me,.

Fuck those piece of shit idiots.
It would be fun to see how they compare to the real game though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Well maybe I will give them a call and see what they say directly to me, I mean if they feel there sub is as good as they say it is, I would love to put it in a test with these subs... it would be great publicity for them as well, i dont know why they wouldnt want that.

i have a SHW that i would probably be willing to let you use for testing. i just skimmed through the thread and dont know if you have one yet but shoot me a PM if interested.

just look at that ***

15” Heads-up Challenge
Proposal – Collect 15” Dual 2ohm models from several companies to do a variety of tests to compare the subwoofers.

Testing Setup

2000 Toyota 4runner

250amp EA alt

DD Z2lv or RD D9s

6 Stinger SPV70s

Boxes – Nine different boxes will be built (all 1.5” mdf)

•3 Bassrace Boxes

•3 Spl Boxes

•3 Daily Boxes

Tests-

• 30 second bassrace average (all subs will be on the same song which is not appointed yet)

• Spl burp peak score

• Daily will be tested by ear, this is obviously an opinionated decision but we will try and do the best we can in this case.

Scores-

Bassrace and SPL peak will be held on a Termlab mic, which I have two in my possession.

Boxes will be built by Mike Strass, a well respected box builder in the greater Chicago area.

AS of right now RD has confirmed testing several of their 15"s waiting on several other companies including DC, Cascade Designs, Sundown, and Others.

If you are a subwoofer company and would like to be involved please PM me.

the ohms does not matter, you can pretty much collect any woofer you want as long as you have all the power you need. my simply point being if you are trying to gain match, you have literally zero clue how much power each woofer will actually draw from the amp unless you truly measure it. the impedance of each will be different even if you magcially have the exact same DCR. Unless the woofer TSP's are all identical otherwise you're dealing with vastly different impedance loads. for example if one driver have double the BL you'll have about the double resistance at resonance in a sealed box so you'll pull less power form the amp and wonder why its not louder with the same voltage and DCR (DC resistance).... this is not a sensitivity comparison its simply voltage matching. All the bassrace and spl burping sounds great and all, but the most meaningful data is going to be from a klippel, or equivalent system, unfortunately not many people will get much out of that.

I understand what you are implying but it is much easier to compare subs with the same vc, whether or not the nominal load will be equal, is something I will take care of. The thing is to compare a d1vc to a d2vc is simply not relative as the coils are not identical. EX. a HDC3 D1 vs a HDC3 D2 will test differently, it may not be drastic but it still remains a variable that if possible I am trying to remain constant, I am aware the nominal load will not be but that is something I can adjust. I can not adjust how one company's Dual 2ohm coil compares to another companies D1 coil.

bumpin are you letting these companies know that you are hoping to keep the subwoofers after testing to pay for all this?
If not i would encourage them to do so since this will take money and a lot of time.
time yes,,,, money not as much, one sub will pay for is work he has to put in,,no affecnce to matt but i dont like some of the things he comes up with, he will just sell most of the subs over time to ppl becuse he cant put 20 mixed matched subs in a ride, and over is caraudioclassified.com as i recall it the memebers dam near payed at lease haft for the term lab,, so baseically he just sucks money out of every one in my opion

and i saw the the subs you recive will pay for mdf and gass, i dont see 10 + subs if sold over time, add ing to a few hundred in bills and the time it takes to test,, shouldent be counted you should be doing it on free time,, if you state that the subs will pay for 2 weeks of testing that refers to you only doing it to make a Buck.!
