i am looking for the best 6x9's for about $200. i just got kenwood kdc-x869 head unit and sirius satellite radio (love it). i am looking for good 6x9's that will have good mid bass. so when i get subs in they will sound good with them and copliment them. i am more in to spl then sq but i still want them to sound decent and not like shit. if any one could help that would be great . thank you

6 x9 speakers usually distort very easily especially if amped. Running any speakers off of your head unit will probaly not yield too much spl. Where are these going? rear shelf? i had 6x9s in my civic and whenever the volume was up at all they sounded like ****, so i just got rid of the rear speakers all together and am much happier with just a sub and front components, thats pure opinion though. I did have 6.5s on the rear deck for a little, they sounded better, but with the sub on they were drowned out anyway, so i didnt see a point in them being there.

If you ask me, the only reason I would put some 6x9's back in the rear deck of my car was so that I would have some midbass. I personally dont like anything but a round speaker but I have heard good souding 4x6's and 6x8's. As soon as I get the funds, the factory 4x6's in my car are leaving and some Pioneer Rev 6 1/2's are going in their place.

I have to second Silica on this one tho. I have heard a pair of Planet Audio 6x9's, they were the older ones but me and my friend tried to get them things to distort and they wouldnt do it. The deck that was pushing them would give out before the speakers thenselves would.

First off Nosaj070 said that 6x9's distort when amped. 6x9's generally dont distort as long as they're not underpowered or overpowered. 6x9's handle the most power out of any full range speakers. I definetely dont reccomend pioneers, as they dont make top quality speakers. If you want good quality i would buy the infinity kappa 6x9's, or MB Quart 6x9. In my opinion, Infinity Kappas and MB Quart are two of the best.

Second, if you run speakers off the deck, they are going to distort at high volumes. If you amp the speakers, then you can get the speakers to go a lot louder without distortion and in the case of 6x9's, i dont think you'll have a problem with them distorting. I got infinity kappa 6x9s in my car amped with a kicker 600.4 (75x4 @ 4 ohms) and they sound incredible.

You can find the kappas for arounf $130 if you look online.

Good luck

Speakers don't distort when underpowered. 6x9's are known for distortion as a direct result of using a non-circular cone. While some will have less distortion than others, the distortion is present no matter how much (or how little) power you feed them. It's true of all speakers, really, as I understand it, but oval cones increase the distortion rate substantially.
