everyone is all up in arms over this and they act like this is a new thing. this happens everytime the presidency switches from rep to dem or dem to rep.

honestly i see both sides to the argument.

1. No, the constitution doesnt say we have the right to have assault weapons but thats because they werent invented yet. we should have the right to obtain the same weapons that our government has access too (excluding tanks, grenades, etc cause that would just be stupid) after all this is supposed to be a government for the people by the people and if we ever need to overthrow the government (like our 4 fathers who wrote the constitution did) it would be impossible to do so with a shotgun or a pistol........

2. assume we never have to overthrow the government, what the hell do you need a machine gun for? you arent going to hunt with it and please dont tell me home protection. if you arent a good enough shot to protect your home with a rifle, hand gun, or shotgun i dont want you to own a gun period.

that is all, just my .2 cents

It says bare arms, and even still, that's an out dated practice. But, it's reasonable. I can understand... but there's no need for an automatic weapon in your house.

LOL! We can all have fully automatic machine guns!!! To hell with the '86 Hughes amendment! Assault weapons means "machine guns" sold to minors at the 7-11 with no background check.

do you know any gun shop owners? i bet if you told them thats why you were buying the gun they would high five you actually. thats what it was put in the constitution for. and hell the men that wrote the constitution were all very anti government and anti religion for that matter.

Actually, to "overthrow the gov't" is not nessesary. To simply have a significant portion of the population well armed is enough to limit tyranny. The gov't can go after a few people or groups, but there will be no boxcars leading to holocoust style ovens in our future. It is your duty to keep a military grade rifle ready to go. To protect everyones liberty, not just yours.

Hitler wanted to, and mostly suceeded at, uniting "greater germany". Except for the swiss, right in the middle, because they were armed to the teeth. The citizens kept military weapons at home. Just like they do today, just like they have for 1,200 years.

The American Militia is based on the swiss model. Be patriot and go get yourself an AR15 or AK47. You'll also need 2 dozen mags, spare parts, cleaning kit, several thousand rounds of ammo (mostly for training), some proffesional instruction and some way to lock it up.

the guy at my local pawn shop is funny as hell now that you bring that up. He had a few cars a while back parked out front his store with the Obama stickers on them and he called up the people to come and move there cars away from his parking lots. He said its running off my customers and he wont be the one to say no to target practice right there.

I got a kick out of it.

BTW, Pelosi and Reed have said there will be no new AWB. I think that means at least not till after their re-election (2 years), then the next media circus around a big shooting spree will make the issue rear it's ugly head again.

But I think we're okay till then.
