Testing W/ a Skar VVX 12"

So i have a pair of Skar vvx 12s laying around so i figured ill throw a single 12 in this box i have laying around i do not know much about it i picked up off craigslist along time ago for a cheap price seller told me he hit a 147 with a re xxx 12" idk how much truth there is to that if any it looks to me more of a burp box than anything 16" all around with a 16" 6" aero port idk how this will do spl wise but we will see i just bought a spl lab so thats what the numbers will be coming from in a trunk of a pontiac g6 so dont expect great numbers bc my car doesnt get numbers well at all!!! But i figured it will be a fun thing to mess with try different things to see what works best shorting for 140+db but not going to hold my breath my car just doesnt meter well going off my past numbers it will be ran off my current amp which is a Planet Audio bb2400 @ 2 ohms so not much power either

Got about 30 min of testing today here are some pics all testing down in kick on a Planet Audio bb2400 rated at 1600rms @ 2ohm lucky if i ever seen 1k this sub was brand new never seen power till today no break in period at all! All testing was done on a 50htz tone burp my car meters horribly back seats were folded down the during all testing so all in i started at 136.23db and finished with a 138.62 in about 25min i gained 2.39db just by doing odds and ends things moving seats,leaning seats forward,removing back seat, moving box around.

This is what i stated with the sub back port on drivers side mic in passenger kick!

Gain of .43db

Gain of .08db

Gain of .3db Here i moved sub facing towards the inside of the cabin port passenger, mic in drivers kick

Gain of .84db

Gain of .74db Here i removed my backseat (takes about 5sec)

Got a little more testing done before i go to work got some better numbers

Gain of .25db turned gain up

Gain of .14db moved box around again

Gain of .28

Gain of .14 Opened glove box and turned gain up a bit more

So far ive gained 3.2db in about a total of 45min of testing still need a 55htz tone! If anyone has one post it here so i can download it

if you check on SMD's forum, there was a guy that did a bunch of testing with theories of what gains and what loses. i can shoot you the link if you'd like to try some of the things

I found that thread and copied and pasted it into Microsoft word lol but thanks man going to look over that and try to get some ideas

So i took out my carpet in my trunk had to if i wanted to get the box in with sub up. Also i made my own 53htz tone and thats what i tested it with today. I did it!!!! Managed to break my best score yet in my car! Over 2 days of testing ive gained 4.11db not bad the craziest things make a difference im stopping here and putting my daily setup back in ive accomplished my goal with this single 12" which was a 140+db

I think it's funny a few months ago everybody hated Skar now everybody is on their nuts. I'm glad I made up my own mind when I picked my build. Except I listen to people telling me to buy a Crescendo amp. That was a 500 buck mistake. That money could of went to a better set of splits.

Give the man some credit, he's burping off a sub that's meant to play lows in a vehicle that meters terribly

It was the owner that everyone didn't like. Iirc they all said the subs looked stout but the owner was shady or something.

OP not bad at all for some random tests, with a random box. Imagine what could be done with a box for the car and some more testing.

I know thanks man... Going to cut the port down a bit see what happens then I'm very pleased with the score

just about every car will be similar..

some are shaped differently some have to be modified slightly, but nearly every car I've installed and boult a specific box for whereby more that 1 db difference..

even a older lexus Es300 where the back seat only had a folding arm rest..

it acted like a 6th order band pass..

done a 144 with a 9515 @47hz with a cadence a7hc..

just because the box does good in one car doesn't mean it's a good design for any car.. honestly though that's not terrible if it's musical..
