Testing old sub

Is there way to hook a car amp to a home stereo, like what i did i just the cut the wire going to the old like 3" sub and hooked it up to this 12" sony i had, but its hardly powered is there a better way to do this? i'm kinda noob

is the sony in a box? get the amp. get a car battery charger. positive to positive neg to neg remote to pos. rca to rca out on home stereo. there r better options like a plate amp.
