Testing head unit for clipping with oscilloscope.

New to car audio. I just ordered an oscilloscope to set the gain on my amp. Before I do so, I'd like to test max volume of my head unit from the speaker outputs using the oscilloscope (not currently using the RCA's) and was wondering how I might go about doing that. Thank you for any input.

There is a guy named John Atkinson he published stereophile for 30 years you might try googling him he knows more about testing stereo equipment than just about anybody. Stereophile has a lot an their site. What do you hope to learn by testing max output at the source? Line voltage is pretty standard across the board. If you wanna know how to test for clipping I can help you with that.
Good luck
