Testing a used amp?

I posted my blown re sx18 for sale a while ago and I guy hit me up and asked if I still had it. I don't but he tells me he rebuilds subs and what not. I told him I'm looking for a dd amp. He said he has a few z1 and a m4 and m4a he might sale. So how do I buy a amp that I don't have a sub to test the power on. I have a few 12s but they are no where near the power for the amp even at 4 ohms. Is there a way to test with a multimeter or something..

You can see if it puts out voltage, yes.

Sometimes there are weird problems where the amp protects at higher volumes or the signal is distorted though.

Even if your subs are small, you can turn the gain down all the way and just makes sure the output signal doesn't sound weird.

Idk, some people have weird problems. You seem to have bad luck with buying used amps

I'd always go for a very soft clip if possible to see what the amp can actually handle and if its gonna blow with the slightest stress test.

Thanks . But for some reason I'm stuck on dd. I think cuz I got this motor lol., plus I don't know anyone personally that runs or have ran dd so that a plus for me.

So I can test the sound at low volume and gain then unplug subs and send put the amp in a soft clip to see how easy it protects or not?

Depends on what's done. But possibly

Without any load, soft-clipping it won't prove anything. Unloaded, there's no current going through it.....
