It wasn't the amp at all. The amp I got is more than enough watts rms for the sub. My 0 db just didn't work because I listen to rock too and the bass line in rock just didn't go near that high of a level. You could hear it but just not enough. The rap could pound for some songs but I could tell where some songs were lacking in their level. I actually had to go to a -6db to finally get what I was after. I got an amp with a remote level so that I could adjust for different sources and kinds of music. I can leave it low to around medium-high for rap and can go all the way up for rock. Either way I can still maintain a safe voltage going to my sub. I monitored quite a few songs through audacity to see their levels before finally deciding to go with the -6 plus I can tell by ear what level is the max for a particular song.
