i am looking into the tarantula series stuff from soundstream and was wondering how these 3 products performed?

2 dvc 1ohm tarantula 12" 1000 rms each

1 tarantula amp 2000 watts rmsx1

2 sst6.5 6.5" speakers

any thoughts and info appreciated.

oh and in the speakers im looking for pure SQ and in the subs im looking for about 65/35 SPL/SQ

The original Tarantula amp was a ****ing beast ... It was incredibly inefficient and came with its own 300 ampere alternator ... Awesome amp, but incredibly poor power per dollar ratio ...
I don't know about the new Tarantula amplifiers, but the internals still look really good ...

is this amp your talking about the one i am? i dunno i jus came across this line of stuff like 3 days ago so i know nuthing bout it?

The original Tarantula came out in the late-90s (Can't remember exactly), was rated at 2000 RMS @ 2 ohms (Fairly underrated, so a lot more), came with its own 300 ampere alternator, and cost about $3000 US ...
oh this one im looking at , at etronics is like $1400 i think. and it is rated at 2000x1 at both 4 and 2 ohms it says.

and it doesnt say anything about its own alt so prolly not the one, im guessing.

It's still Class A, so don't expect it to be very efficient (60% at most) Expect to draw about 230 amperes or more ...
The page with the internals of the new Tarantulas was deleted, so I can't show you them, but they look like they're built quite well internally.
so u need a 260 amp alternator or a power plant. ur choice.

tarnatula was a single amp in the late 90's that was a power hungry power house that would destroy anything in terms of output and SQ. it was a monster, and had a monster price tag to go with it.

once Sound stream was sold about 2 years ago the company did some restructuring of thier products.

tarantula became a product line rather than just a single product. Not many ppl have given the new ss product a chance, so no much is know about the performance. I reccomend going to the ss site or calling ss tech support

Nothing changed at SS except it's ownership, they are now owed by Powercoustic, both it's management and tech staff are still the same as is there location. Product lines are still built to the same high standards as always. The expantion of the Tarantula line is simply good business, they are very good drivers that sound great and the new amps are very powerful and yes the mono block big 2k watter is a current hunger beast that will put out some serious power, there is also some class d smaller amps in that lineup also...... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

do u know if any of those smaller ones put out about 1000 watts?
check out the TR 1700 which is an older model and try the new TR 1600/2 , these should take care of your needs... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

yeah i think i might have been looking at those but the subs are 1000 watts rms and i dont think those 2 put out 2000 watts? but would one of those amps get the 2 subs bumbin?

i would hope that they are over 1000rms amps and assuming they are 500 a sub better the thing moving or talk about inefficient. yeah the tarantula was an insane amp i wanna see the davinci and the other one that has the weird face on it i haven't seen either of those two have any of you guys??

the subs im looking at are 1000 watts rms a piece

so say the amp pushing somewhere around 1800 (or i think it might be 1700) will that be enuff to realy get the subs moving?

1700 will move them very nicely. you do not need rms wattage to get a sub to reach it's peak performance it's all dependent on box size and other factors.
