Talk me into or out of going sealed

sealed if you want your sub to blend in with your front stage completely.
ported if you want your bass to bump over your front stage.

I prefer sealed.

do you have experience with low tuned well designed vented enclosures?

Sealed is for those who enjoy MUSIC, ported is for bass heads.

In some regard, it doesn't matter if he has experiences with them or not - he could concievably find that he thinks even a low tuned bass reflex enclosure sounds like ***, and that would be fine.

The problem is making a gross generalization that doesn't apply to everyone...

true, but many come to conclusions without experience

Back when I started this hobby, I use to think that ported enclosures sounded like shyt because of what people said.

Generalizations like these discourage others from the advantages of a vented enclosure.

If space is an issue.....sealed.

If one wants to save time and money......sealed

Yes I admit is was a generalization and a bit of a cheap shot at the bass kids, but in most installs a ported box is SPL and generally not for SQ.

Screw it, I've got enough wood to build both, I'm going to try both and see which I like better. I figure a 1.5 cubic ft. sealed and a 2.25 cubic ft ported, I just can't decide what frequency to port it to, I was thinking about 28-30 any suggestions?

Luckily, my work schedule is very nice for getting things like this done, I work 25 days straight then get 2 weeks off. I was out trying to adjust my PEQ a little more and play with the crossover to see if I could get a little more midbass out of my current setup, and came to the conclusion that it's just not going to happen, the box is just too big to produce any kind of midbass.

If one wants to save money, then ported is a better option, IMO ...

x2, ya spend maybe $5-10 more on wood and can get quite a bit more output depending on the boxes you are comparing.

2.5 - 3 cubes @ 32 hz is what i would do for a 9500

for some reason i really like 9500's.
