Read deck box?

I'm doing an install in a car that has no place for rear speakers, so i figured i could build a small box for 6.5" speakers to be placed back there.

Concern

*Usine 1/2" MDF will split using #4 wood screws Smallest i can find at home depot.

Questions

*What screw size should i use?

*What can I do to prevent this?

* Any Suggestions?

I remeber reading something on that, Is it the only thing i can do aside from using 3/4" which i think is to big for the size im building?

If you pre-drill the holes, and dont use a huge screw, you won't split the wood. I have built a small enclosure out of 1/2 MDF before with no problems.

besides using smaller screw pretty much. it looks much better ifd you predrill/countersink ur screws anyways

That or just use brad nails, or if you had too you could just glue it and clamp it. If you do it right screws will work just fine.

Got any clamps?

Bypass screws all together and just clamp the panels together after you glue them.

I have elmers wood glue and I was going to glue them along with screwing them, even thinking about pouring some glue in the predrilled holes.

As far as clamps go, the best i can do are put some of my college books (acct, psyc, culinary bible, etc) on them.Heavy books, would it be as effective?
