Take a look at my hideous box

Alright, so I'm trying to figure out how to improve the sound of my sub, and I realize that a big problem is the box. I had the materials to make a box at the time I put this in, but for some odd reason, decided to just put it in this one first. As you can tell, it's (sort of) a sealed box, with many obvious flaws. The guy that gave it to me told me it would be fine, but I knew there would be problems. It has a terminal cup that I'm not even using, and a giant handle that isn't necessary. Besides that, the ratio of the sides is all wrong and there are two holes he cut out thinking it would make it sound better. Additionally, there is no bracing inside, and carpet missing from one side. Suprisingly, the sound is not that bad, but it can (and will) definitely be improved. I think that with only 350W running to the sub, I'm going to want to build a low-tuned ported box to get the most that I can with what little power I have. Does this sound about right? Or do you think building a proper sealed enclosure would improve my sound? I'm looking for SQ, but probably more SQL, as I do want it to be a little bit louder and still sound good.

edit

woody...I didnt read the post btw..just saw a handle and left..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

if you strictly want SQ then just make a new completely sealed enclosure and bump away..

How much ya want for it? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/satan.gif.9c6a335ed7aeeed3ee273e573f1fcaac.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/hilarious.gif.02a037aad04aa96f19982b298a3d70a8.gif

A few things, you don't need bracing on a box THAT small.Second, the handle has nothing to do with sound, 3rd, the unused terminal has nothing to do with sound. The carpet though, dat right thur addz mad DBz.Little joke, doesn't effect sound.Chances are it's tuned pretty **** high with those ports, just try plugging them for shits and giggles. And finally, buy some ****ing terminals for your amp......it was not meant to accept bare wire. And I know exactly what your problem will be when you come on here in a couple weeks "why does my fuse keep blowing?".

For the record, not trying to be an ***.Just stating facts.

if they arent sealed well it will have air leakes, making them have something to do with the sound

He didn't say anything about air leaks, I was just going by his post //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Actually, I know all of those things don't directly affect the sound of it, but like david said, they are additional and unnecessary things that add oppurtunities for leaks. Thus, I don't consider it a fully sealed box. And I appreciate your tip for the amp terminals, this was my first install, and it does look pretty rough at the moment. Also, I'm pretty sure bracing would be optimal for my box, because even if the box doesn't flex that much, the amp is sitting on a horribly built 3/4" MDF box. My next box will either not have the amp on it or it will be nailed into the bracing for less stress on the internals of the amp. And someone guessed it right, this box was found behind a Wal-Mart by a guy who thought it would make a great subwoofer enclosure. However, it had two speaker holes, so he sawed off one half and just gave it to me. Like I said, I plan to part with this box as soon as possible.

Ohhh, good, god.Set it on fire and make a video //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I don't suggest standing downwind of that though......
