Tahoe Component Problem

Recently I purchased some Polk components to replace my stock ones. I did not put the crossover in (I had to go back to college) and just connected the speakers to the stock locations. There is an aftermarket deck powering them and now they are cracking a lot. The speakers are rated way over the power put out by the deck and I don't think I blew them, is it possible to blow a crossover? Where is the crossover on the Tahoe, I couldn't see it in the dark? I'm at a loss with this stuff...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

use the crossover that came with your components. Your speakers are distorting (cracking) most likely because your head unit is sending clipped signals to your speakers at high volumes. This is why you need atleast some type of amp even if it is underpowering your speakers.

Originally posted by 95HighTahoe I think I just got my answer, appearantly there are no factory crossovers and my components were getting their signal directly from the head unit without any crossover. If there wasn't a crossover I think I might have actually blown them.
If you did blow them its not because you didnt have a crossover. You blew them because you were sending them a clipped signal (Head Unit)

how does it sound at low volume??? honestly...i think you should stop talkin about the crossover lol, cuz i dont think that has anything to do with it. i may be wrong though. i think its cuz you dont have an amp on your speakers.

I'd have to say I'm with mr. bumpin over here. try going to a car stereo place that carries your head unit and those polks (might be non-existent) and run the polks off the 8400MP. Turn up the volume and see if you hear the same "crackle" that you hear in your car. As for the crossover, I have no idea. I've never worked with one before.

its probably clipping as Bumpin said..... you should of took the extra five minute to put the x overs in //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nono.gif.eca61d170185779e0921b0faa9704973.gif
