System skips like a quarter of a second, help please!

I recently installed a system in my car. I have a kenwood hd552u unit, two kicker 12 comp vrs the old school black ones that are 800watts peak each and a 2600watt ssl amp that is nowhere near true rating. It sounds decent but recently the whole system including my highs have been skipping every so often. The amp does get hot, but it isn't always hot when it skips. Any suggestions at all? I am the type I want every bit of bass that I can get bit this issue is driving me nuts, please offer any suggestions, I am looking to upgrade here soon if anyone is selling anything that would help this setup. Thank you!
