System Setup, Hertz/Audison

HFC = High frequency contour.

The mlk165's have the same thing

It helps with the sound bringing it more centered. For the 165's it says to set the driver's side x-over to hfc ON and the pass one, leave it OFF.

I'd assume it's the same for the mlk2.

Sounds like a parametric EQ, which you will not like. I have a 5.1k and love it, and I am running passive CDT's, but I use an Audiocontrol DQXS in line b4 the amp, crossovers on the amp bypassed and set my X/O in the DQXS. It also happens to be for sale in my for sale thread if interested. You have great equipment, just take a little time b4 getting discouraged. Take it back to the installer and work with them until you are happy with the sound.

Hello,New to this forum and Car audio in general.

Just installed new system and had questions about setup.

Hertz MLK2's with Audison LRx5.1 amp, Mille 3000 sub.

The MLK's have huge crossovers with multiple jumpers.

How can the sound be changed with the crossovers?

What overall effect on system?

My "complaint", if that's the right word, is that overall it sounds a bit flat. Less "colorfull" than the previous setup (lower level Hertz/audison)

My head unit (avic d3) has a huge range of adjustments for sound.

I'm impressed with the new systems linearity and smoothness, but want a bit more "pizazz" in the midrange.

Any comments or advice appreciated.

you dont mind me asking, how much $$$ was the Audison LRx5.1 ? and where did you buy it?

that amp looks very nice and it will save me alot of room

i've been into audison for about 4 years now. as a matter of fact it was my first car stereo amp brand (yep, i only started doing systems in my car for about 4 years now).

i recently decided to dispense with my 2 audison LRx amps (2.500 and 1.400) and go with the 3.1K (getting it for a pretty good price also).

since i started doing car stereo i had a set of QSD 216's in my cars being driven by the 2.500, and it sounded awesome, but a few months ago, these speakers croaked on me (for no apparent reason, a loud pop from the driver's side driver and the passenger side drivers went literally to mute).

anyway, i decided to swap them out for the ZR650-CSi's and these sound pretty detailed and nice. i like them.

but i have a few questions: how do passive crossovers split the power output to the tweets/mids ? percent-wise, if anyone knows ? one thing my audison dealer tells me is that passive crossovers act as resistance to the system output.

so if i instead go with the 5.1K, i can feed each speaker individually.

but this is where my question is: i've got a front + sub setup, which means i'm using only 2 outputs from my CD7000. can the 5.1K take the front channel input into A, and feed the hi-pass part of it to the tweeters (channel A out) and the midrange part to the mids (channel B) ?

like i said, i'm in a front+sub setup. not sure if i'd have to configure the deck for 3-way to use this amp without the passive JL crossovers ? since i have the tweets/mids mounted in my doors, i'm not sure if 3-way would sound right (i assume i'd need the mids in the rear deck).

if anyone has input, that would be awesome, i plan on placing the order tomorrow, and want to make the right choice.

Thanks.

Ditch the crossovers.

You will love active.

fronts get set to highpass 1.9k

rear ch. or midbass get set to bandpass from 55hz to 2k

run your subwoofer on lowpass set at 65hz 24db

Set the deck to flat

And make sure you have the large cups on the back side of the tweets

Thanks

Anyone else need anything from audison or hertz please just call me.

Please dont call if you just want to haggle me about pricing.

BTW retail on the lrx5.1k is 1499.99

Yes I am an authorized dealer.

I assume set the tweeter and woofer slopes at 12db?

Active was what i'm aiming for, but the passive crossovers will do bi-wire also.

i was leaning towards dumping the passive crossovers, but setup is going to take quite a bit of time and listening until i get the right response.

can you show me what the curve for all 3 filters will look like with the settings you mentioned ?

i run a front + sub setup, so channel B will get driven by channel A when i set be to PRE-OUT.

problem with these audison amps is that you never know exactly what the frequency is that the adjustment knob is pointing to. can you tell me, because i've asked audison before and never got a response about it: is F1 (the crossover values on the knob) the actual crossover point on the curve where it starts the 12 dB dip ? or is it targeted to be the point where 2 filter curves cross each other (the intersection point of hi-pass and band-pass or lo-pass and band-pass curves) ?

i decided to get the 5.1K. it's a huge amp, and it's probably going to take some work getting it tucked away in the trunk where i want it. But it's versatility and feature set are insane. plus it looks much better than my existing LRx 2.500 and 1.400 amps. i also have a 2.250 @ home. so should i ebay these older LRx's or can I sell them on here ?

thanks for the advice.
