System I just wired not as loud as I thought itd be

highger RMS numbers mean that your subs can take more watts. usually, more watts would allow your subs to play louder.

When it says 700 w RMS, you don't HAVE to give it all 700w RMS. You could maybe give about 500w or so and it'll still be loud.

Also, the box that the subs will go into will have a direct effect on how much the subs should take. (large proted box means less power required, small sealed mans more power needed)

If in a large ported box, i would recommend sending 1000w RMS total to BOTH subs. If they should be sealed, then send 700w or so to each, making it 1400w RMS total.

Note that those are mftrs, recommendations. Audiobahn has been known to take more than stated. (Audiobahn is also notorious for getting loud, but lacks in sound quality)

Also, I saw your post about the audiobahn amp. Not a bad choice, just know that there are more options available. Gauntlet has taken the time to make the 1000+watt post user-friendly. I highly suggest you use it, it's really helpful //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Hey, you're in a forum to ask. It's the right thing to do.

If anything, I advise you to ask more about anything that you might be curious about. Not only me, but someone else is bound to help you out more and more. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ahh ok, i have 2 Audiobahn 12" Dual 4 Ohm 700 watts and my amp is a new Rockford Fosgate 401s, 4Ohms - 100 watts X 2, 2 ohms 200 watts X 2, 4ohms 400 watts X 1
Well it sounds like you're trying to push subs with an RMS rating of about 700 watts total with an amp thats only pushing 400 watts. Speakers generally need to meet their rms wattage to operate at an acceptable efficiency. If they don't get the required power its like trying to tow a horse trailer with a pinto.

i say your analogy is flawed.

Subs can be underpowered, so long as it doesn't clip or distort.

Subs can stillr each xmax with half thier rated RMS, depending on what kind of encli\osure or perhaps, without an enclosure at all.

Also, when you say pinto, you mean a car? If yes, then well, cars tend to have more than one horsepower.

Come on man. I'm trying to keep it simple. Sure you can get sound, and sometimes its not that bad, but it reminds me of when I sold my 12W6's to my friend. I was powering them with a PPI A1200 (1200x1@4) he powered them with an MTX 4160 amp which gave each woofer about 55 watts on a 300 watt RMS. Did it still sound good? Yes of course it did, but it was nothing compared to being pushed by the 1200.

I agree. This is very good advise. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/idea.gif.5acb6a39a9b92425414c316dda202bad.gif
