One of my friends parents recently approached me about adding a custom sound system to his fully overhauled 1970 boss mustang.
A little background on the overhaul that he is having done. It is currently being built in colorado.
around 50k is going into the car for a renovation.
Body: Most panels are being replaced with fiberglass weight saving pieces. front fenders are being updated to the '69 mustangs with the scoop on the side, Custom intake fiberglassed into the hood to create a vaccum under high rpm circumstances. Levours form a mach 1 will be added to the rear triangle windows with custom fiberglass resevoirs for when it rains to bleed out any water through the rear quarterpanel.
Paint: custom copper orange with a large metallic fleck in it.
Engine: Not a lot known. believe it is 429ci, all alluminum. should be producing about 575 crank hp 3.50 final drive with a 6spd. 950 holley or demon carb.
suspension/wheel tires: 3" lowering spring(unknown spring rate) . 10 way adjustable front coilovers. stiffer roll bar up front. notched frame in rear and custom engineered 4 link in rear. 13" rotors all the way around with 4 piston calipers and larger power steering pump. 17x8.5s in the front and 17x10.5s in the rear wrapped in some parrelli's.
interior: 5 point racing belts, 6 pt roll cage, color matched copper orange/white interior. A/C remains intact, rare option of tilting/telescoping steering wheel also remains.
He came to me because he figured that in this type of custom car he might as well have a few more creature comforts. His budget for audio in the car is right around the 1k mark and he isnt looking to add a substage as of right now.
With that budget i think that it would be acceptable to allocate the cash this way:
New Head unit: $250
front stage: 2 or 3 way componet setup $250
2/4ch amp: hopefully 4 channel $250 with wiring
rear stage: $150-250
music preference: He's in his mid/late 50's, listens to a lot of classic rock/ vocals
He mentioned that He looked into a few brands such as klipisch, mcintosh, but also asked about bose quality and the use of tube amplifiers in car audio.
I was thinking of getting him a nice set of CDT's up front, but also am looking into rainbow, eminesence, etc
Looking for some input on specific brands for ea componet along with the possiblity of adding a sound processor into the mix with an eq built in.. thanks for the input
