SX not loud enough..

Well I got bored and dug up the soldering iron. I think I fixed the problem. I just heated things up and pulled in some of the tinsel slack. I took it up to the corner parking lot to test it real fast. I cranked the settings up a little and I'm not hearing the same clicking/popping sound but I won't know how it's doing for sure until tomorrow when I can really play with it. Thanks for the help gentlemen. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

good luck wih the tinsel splap thing. Cant comment cuz i never had that problem. As for the SX not being a sq woofer, i agree... I have 2SE in my othere car that is a SQ car.

The SXis a beas SQL woofer. it has the potential to get really loud, and in the proper setup it can sound real good, and playloud.

The MT isa straight spl woofer

The tinsel slap issue was resolved, in the reply just above yours, an hour and a half before you typed that. But Im sure your post-traumatic support was truely appreciated. And your insight about the MT from out of left field really tied your post up nicely.

Bravo sir.

Well, its either tinsel slap, or you got too short tinsels now.
Lose lose situation in my opinion.
That's why you do it the right way like I did and have tinsels that are just right and fix the problem.

I won the situation IMO, thanks though.

Somebody posted a comment about the sx being a spl woofer and I stated its not. Tinsel slap is simple if its just one woofer I would just resolder all tinsel leads to the same length. I have a soldering iron, soldering heat gun, oscillioscope, and have done done amp repair, and computer motherboards for 9yrs, and a degree in mechanical engineering.

I wouldnt change the length of one tinsel unless i was going to change the length of all of them. If one lead is shorter, or longer then more current will flow to the shortest lead. This may not cause you a big problem if you dont, but it would be the proper way to do it

i didnt say it was an spl woofer. i said, imo its not nearly an SQL woofer. and then said "spl, sure" as in the spl part of sql, and then "sq, no" as in the other half of the term sql. never said it was a straight out spl woofer. however comparing them to my friends xxx, i felt cheated by the sx's. mine were muddy in all the boxes they were in....his was pristine...

I resoldered them all evenly and did a little free-air test before I put it back in the box with real power. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Been pounding it all day without a problem so far. I still don't know that I'm satisfied with the SX though. I think I might still need to build a new box, it seems like it's hitting its limits way too soon still. To me it's not the S(P)QL monster everyone has made me believe it to be.

No, an SX is not an SQL monster. That freakin efficiency test RE did that showed the SX was 'louder' than the xxx really screwed alot of people over who misunderstood the data. The SX peaked louder than the xxx, but the xxx has the SX beat in raw displacement, by a long shot. What this means is the SX might burp out a single note louder, but the xxx will sustain a louder level over the entire freq range the subs would be required to play. More excursion, at least (if not more) thermal capacity... there really is no comparison betwen a xxx and an sx.

I consider the SX a 'street beater', sounds decent to good, but gets loud. The xxx just sounds **** good and gets loud.

I'm going to try a 2ft^3 @ 33hz enclosure and if I'm still not happy, I'll probally go back on the market for something new. Maybe a DD, I hear those things are suposed to get pretty noisey. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

your box is huge, make a box thats like 2.2cF@35hz, thats what your reaching the mechanial limits so easily
That's what I was thinking. I can tell the thing wants to get moving more but I believe the large enclosure is holding it back.

Longer Tinsel Lead = Less Current = LOL!
