SX not loud enough..

uh yeah...32hz isnt to high.

If the tinsels are to long...which they might be sometimes they are, no fault to anyone.

simply heat up the solder joint with a soldering iron, and take some needle nose pliers and pull some of the tinsel through the connections (you will see what I mean when you start heating up the solder) the Tinsel is like a thread and the connection is like the end of a needle, simply pull the tinsel a little further down, takeing out some slack.

DO NOT CUT THE TINSEL LEAD, cause if you cut it to short, you are out of luck //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

i run anywhere between 1200 to 1500 watts each to 2 SX 15s in 8 cubes at around 32 hz and they eat it up. get the smelly coils sometimes but turning it down for a song or two fixes that. ive never reached the mechanical limits of my SXs and I used late nite tip on 3/4 gain to show it off. something somewhere must be wrong. i suggest removing the sub and checking it for any physical damage as well as anything that smells. your box seems to be ok as long as the construction is good so if nothign seems to be wrong with the sub then the amp may be the problem. i don't have anything to say about infinity amps. never used one. just subs and comps.

Seeing as both RE's new site and old site both recommend a ported box from 1.9-2.0 cubic feet tuned 32-33 hz, I'm gonna take a guess and say your box is too large, and you're probably reaching the mechanical limits of the driver.

You're probably wonder how thats possible, but in a ported box thats too large for the driver with enough power, it's quite easy, and you've obviously proved that.

Tinsel slap shouldn't really wear on the spider, the tinsel is suspended above the spider and, when slapping, is making contact with the cone. My xxx's have a felt pad glued to the cone to lessen the noise, but at certain freqs it seems fairly inevitable.
Not on my SX.. I can actually see where it is wearing on the spider. The tinsel leads are very flimsy wire and kind of sag down rather then staying suspended up like on my Atlas. I've tried just positioning them arched up above the spider but obviously once things get moving, it doesn't stay there. I get paid this weekend so I think I'll take a trip to Home Depot and start on a smaller box. 2.7ft^3 did seem a little large to me anyways. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Man get you a box built EXACTLY to RE specs, Put a sundown 1500 on it and you'll be happy.

I put my 3rd RE sx in this weekend, and took 2nd place at a USACI show Sunday. I got beat by a couple dbs by one of the biggest car audio stores in town where every body shops. A member of Team Sundown is hooking up with me do some tweeking to my system for the next show.

I never even played any test tones before the show in my setup. The woofers were reconed, and hadnt even had a chance to loosen up... they were still stiff

the sx is one of the best SQL woofers out there in my opinion. You can argue that theres better in price / power range, but its soooo close that YOUR install would be more important than trying to get somethig a "little" better.

ALSO..... TWO IS SOMETIMES BETTE THAN ONE!!!!

Weird, the tinsels on my xxx's are very stiff and stay suspended no problem.

I really don't think a Sundown amp is going to fix my tinsel problem...
No, but if there were such a thing as a Funky Pup amplifier, I bet it would! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

well he got a FI recone, so maybe they are using tinsels with different properties.

i would call up FI and ask them whats going on. ive read people experiencing tinsel slap from FI subs lately...could it be the material they're using has a downside? or the source where they get the material?

OMFGooses, problem solved!

Will doing this weaken the tinsel lead connection? Should I throw a little extra solder on there to strengthen it or should it hold on its own? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
