I did calculate it out with it, but cannot imagine that I am possibly that far off with this sealed box I have

My question originally was simple lol

Woofer Spec Sheet recommends sealed box

However when I bought them sealed from Manufacture they came in a ported box.

Which should I do? Ported or Sealed?

Another one of these threads eh...It's preference, build it however the **** you want it

All I needed to know if its preference. I know box style is preference for what you are going for, but have been reading that some woofers that for example woofers that are for ported boxes should not be used in sealed because something on them is stiffer and the air resistance of the sealed box will make the bass sound horrible.

The majority of subwoofers on the market will work in either so long as it's designed properly. Your sub's manual has spec's for both designs so you can assume it will be fine in either.

The efficiency bandwidth product suggests the sub will work in both ported or sealed boxes so at that point it comes down to preference...

The ported box came with the subs? Maybe its not such a well built ported box, I've seen some pretty crappy prefab ones. Maybe that could be your problem as to why you dont like it. Have any pics of your setup?

Ill never understand why people claim that their ported boxes will play "lower".

This is why. The yellow line is WinISD's optimum sealed specs, while the orange is modified to give the loudest response possible at 20hz for a sealed box.

The green line is WinISD's optimum ported box, notice how much low end extension it has on the sealed. HOWEVER, most people tune their ported boxes at around 30-35hz (the grey line is a ported box tuned to 35hz). They do this so that they can get that peak in output, this cuts their low end extension though.

Ported boxes can play much lower OR much louder than sealed boxes, but you can't have both.

Correct. Two subs came in a ported box under model number 1234. The sub model inside that pack is submodel ABC. In model ABC spec sheet it says use sealed. Which was my whole point of this thread. I wasn't sure if it was preference, a Fu** up on their part, or if I had to use a certain enclosure.

A good ported box will sound better than a sealed box (just my opinion) because it will play the lower notes with more authority instead of wimping out. What subs and box are you currently using?

It will exaggerate output around tuning if built/designed to do so. However, after taking into account the cabin gain of most modern vehicles, it is hardly ever close to flat. ^That would explain why with the subs in the ported box is rated at 20hz as where the sub itself is rated for 26.6hz

This is true, and TBH I am currently running a sealed enclosure with an f3 of 57hz, where my cabin gain starts at 60hz, and I have a nearly dead even flat response down low. I miss my ported box though...
