Super quick question:

I blew a fuse for my amp. It's a 50A fuse. Impossible to find a replacemnt, it seems. I emailed Rockford Fosgate, and they said get a 60A fuse, the amp will be fine.

When I asked for an explanation, he said:

Cris,Using a 60 amp fuse will not hurt the amp. The fuse is there only for protection

if something goes wrong with the amp.

If something does go wrong with the amp the amp will draw more than 60 amps of

current.
Before I run out and get a 60A fuse, is this information correct? I'm just playing it safe.

okay, I just recieved a package from an ebay seller from whom I purchased 50A fuses. They look fine. So I went out and I installed it; the first fuse popped emmidiately. The 2nd fuse didn't and neither did the 3rd... but none of them were carrying any current to the amp, it seems. I took the power cable and tried to hook it into the positive of my 2nd amp in the car and that amp didn't turn on either; so I'm guessing the fuse simply isn't working. What should I do then? Just buy a 60A fuse and go with that?

The fuse cannot "not work" unless there is a bad connection or the fuse is blown. And you would be able to tell if it was blown. Check your connections.

I went ahead and bought a 60A fuse from radioshack. I installed it and it didn't pop; it simply almost disintegrated. The fuse blew instantly.

Tomorrow I guess I'll check my positive line. One weird thing started happening, though, and this has me very concerned. My head unit, when i set the fade all the way to the front (as always) sends a static-like sound to my speakers up front. The static goes along with the music. Its as if I was listening to bad reception, but its on a cd. When I fade it back to neutral, it goes away. I also noticed when faded forward, the lights in the head unit fade really badly everytime any bass hits (remember, no subs or anything) and even if I'm playing it at a very low volume. When I fade it to normal, the fading goes away. I'm really really concerned about this //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

sounds like a pretty serious problem. I would rip the entire system out and re-wire from scratch, making sure everything is properly attached along the way. Also, you can try grounding all the amps to the same point, grounding the RCA's and running the RCA's on the opposite side of the car while your at it.
