"Rings" that came with my Alpine SWR-1242D's

I'm putting in my two Alpine SWR-1242D's in a Sub Zone box, and I'm wondering if I need to put on these rubber rings that came with each subwoofer, and if so, how? I tried putting them on the box and between the wood/sub, but something just doesn't seem right, and before I screw them in, I want to be sure.

On a separate note, is it OK if I use 12 gauge wire for connecting the subs to the box terminal cups, and 16 gauge wire for connecting the subs to the amp?

I would go 12 gauge the whole way..

If anything, use the smaller wire from sub > cups, and larger from cups > amp

The rings (rubber gaskets) fit around the subwoofer, not underneath or above it.

yea if u understand correctly, they cover the screw heads to give the sub a clean look.
