Sundown vs kicker

You're asking for proof of something that is completely dependent on situational variables, opinions, and experiences. What sounds better, what gets louder, etc are all things that cannot be quantitatively supported(for the most part). SPL has a million variables to take into consideration, as does SQ, that aren't completely in the woofer's control.

All I know if you can get a SA-12 for the same price(definitely less if buying authorized for both) than a W3V3. Opinionated SQ aside, the SA line has a lot more output potential while still sounding acceptable.

They have this thing called a RTA and a SPL mic, I would say that those are both accurate was of testing. I understand that we all have different ears and what sounds good to me may not sound good to you. I also mentioned same variables(test tones, ideal sealed/ported/bandpass) enclosures. When I used to do SPL this is how we tested different woofers in a car to find out if one was better than another. So how does the output side have more potential than a W3v3 woofer if we aren't going to use specs or the same variables, based on that I can say that a Bumper car audio 10" sub is better that a IA 15" woofer. It doesn't make any sense, but it must be true because we have no data to prove it.

kicker subs blow up = no factory recones available. nobody to call. sub = boat anchor

sundown sub blows up = recones are available from sundown . all you have to do is call jacob (or any of the other sub builders on this site)

I guess I work at a "overpriced car audio shop" that cares about my customers enough to sell them product that last longer than most customers own their cars. You can bash JL all you want, but you can't take away the way that their product performs. Anyone can make a woofer in their garage and sell it on the internet, some of them are even popular and some of them are even good. I wasn't actually promoting JL in this post until now. I just wanted to know if anyone had done testing head to head in a car with the same variables. And specs are specs. Theile Small priciples are what all speakers are rated under. Specs don't lie(unless its a mystical 1000 watt amp with a 25 amp fuse). People say that Sundown will outperform a JL W7, cool PROVE IT. I dont think its asking for much. BTW I think the 12W6 would be a better match-up against the Sundown woofer mentioned earlier. I am not trying to ruffle any feathers, I just would like to see actul physical evidence to back up the statements. Sorry for the rant.

this was right after doing a 151.6 30sec music run...buddy had his TL so thought i'd burp it real quick but my batts were shot from the music run...does 153+ on good charged batts

Thats a great score and it sounds like you have designed it to be consistant. I think this has gotten out of hand though. I have been a installer for 15+ years and after all the companies i have seen come and go(some good alot bad) I just want to see proof before I can recommend a woofer to a client/buddy. If we are going for a killer number "great" I have a late model celica with a 12w1 on a jl250/1 that can post a 148.3 all day. You can make any woofer loud in a ported box, just tune the box to the cab of the vehicle and BAAM. Its sounds like **** in that enclosure, but its RFL. Thats not what im looking for. I just was curious if anyone had tried to compare these(kicker vs Sundown) woofers with all the same variables. If nobody has done it then cool, maybe I should order one of each and build a sealed, ported and bandpass for both woofer and test them at ideal power ratings and enclosure specs and then post it here.

JLs woofers arent bad, but If youre gonna sell me a W7 for 1200 dollars and I can get A sundown nightshade 12 for half that or even a third of that, Im gonna go with sundown. I dont pay for a pretty woofer with a cute magnet boot that JL and Kicker typically provide. Dont even get me started on fosgate. Point being that the Sundown stuff sounds pretty dang good and gets pretty dang loud. They are built to take abuse, the owner gives friendly, personalized customer service, and you can fix your subs when they break and it doesnt cost an arm and a leg. There is no way I could justify buying a Kicker, RF, JL, Infinity,etc subwoofer if I had the opportunity to buy even the lowest line of Sundown. You probably wont find any seasoned car audio hobbyist on this site that will agree with you. Sundown isnt my favorite brand by any means, I have seen a lot of good custom woofers and woofers from other companies, but If were comparing sundown to JL and Kicker, you can leave because it doesnt compare and youre fighting a losing battle here. Youll be outnumbered now and youll be outnumbered when youre whining and arguing at 40 of this thread.
