Sundown sa-8 opinions

So , i plan on getting rid of my alpine type-r 12" sub and replacing it with a sundown sa-8 . The 2 questions i have on this is it worth it to get a reconed one for a littile cheaper or should i just buy a new one? Also i want it loud ,but more focused on sound quality and picking up all the notes i can .From what ive read it does best in a ported box. I will be giving it around 500 w rms and wondered what size box would be best and what frquency to tune it at to acheive the desired results. Also if someone already has a box plan for what i want that could hook me up then great, if not i will do the research as i plan on building a slot ported box for it.

It is in a well built sealed encolure that impresses most who hear it and shakes the crap outa everything. Imagine what people will say when i have a single 8. But , a new one from ssa is $135 shipped and woofercooker wants $103 for one shipped. I figure $32 bucks for one with a warranty is a better deal and it hasnt been reconed. I also thought about staying with a 12" ,but going with the ssa dcon , but i don't know . definetly getting rid of the type -r in favor of less space and better sq is what i want as long as it gets as loud as it gets now. Personally i dont need anymore thump than what i have now.

You're trying to get SQ out of a SPL type setup.

If you want loud and SQ, you need to get a more SQ oriented driver but maybe get two of them. That single 8 isn't going to hold up on SQ due to the fact that it needs a ported enclosure, and it's probably not going to be as loud as you'd like it to be.

I think the sq would be better than my type-r in the right ported enclosure tuned low.
I disagree, unless you tune very low and run very little power.

IMO, ported enclosures sound better than sealed because I like the huge peaks at lower frequencies compared to a sealed enclosure.
