Looking for good SQ, but being loud at the same time.

Either one will be powered off a JBL GTO1201.1 1100rms to 2 12's.

Box is 1.3cf per chamber

Music genre is mainly rock & rap, and a little country here and there.

I care about the sub being more musical/SQ than being straight up loud. But having a mix of both is nice.

Which one is better for me?

Either driver will sound great -- ID has a great spider which is more linear than the SA in that regard; really one of the better Klippel measurements I've seen as far as linearity on a spider (we went more towards ruggedness with the spider), they have an identical x-max of 19mm one-way by 70% BL, the SA has a shorting ring so has less inductive distortion. From a distortion stand-point you would be picking either lower suspension distortion (ID) or lower inductive distortion (SA) -- suspension distortion is 2nd order and often seen as "warm" whereas inductive is odd order and sound "bad."

Bit of a toss-up for you... I would be very confident in the SA being louder / more rugged, though, but that isn't your top goal.

I have an IDQ v2 that is very musical in 1.25cubes sealed. I haven't heard the v3. It isn't very loud. It sounds fine in my hatchback. It is kinda cool to actually hear notes with a nice rolloff with a sub. I raammatted the car but at just over 1/2 volume with the windows up you can barely tell the radio is on out the car. It is still too loud to hold a conversation inside the car at the volume(comfortably). Its sound just doesn't carry. If you want to show off at redlights this isn't the sub for you. This sub is great with rock and country.

My SA12 is being delivered today. I ordered one to see how they sound. If I like it alot a may end up with 2 15's in my next project. sorry I have no advise on the sundownz.

I have never heard the SA-12, but i do not think the ID12 will get very "loud" in comparison to the sa-12. I imagine the sq of the ID may top the SA, but again, I have never heard the SA so i have a bias opinion.

Lol I enjoyed reading your description from what sq subs usually sound for me in seal chambers I'd say thats about spot on.

All of the objective distortion data point to both drivers having similar total THD but different types of it.

Most THD in a subwoofer is generated by BL non-linearity where the drivers are pretty well identical.

Suspension and Inductive a more minor part of the picture -- and I discussed those above as well. Each unit is a winner in a different category. As a percentage of total THD suspension does outweigh inductive so overall I'd expect a little bit less total THD out of the ID driver -- but the suspension distortion of the SA-12 will sound "warm" as it's even order. So this part of the equation comes down to what type of sound you want.

If we move on to enclosure modelling -- the IDQ has a bit lower Qtc in your desired 1.3 sealed but the SA-12 F3 is lower at ~46 Hz vs. ~51 Hz on the ID. Both will give you plenty of output for a relatively flat in-vehicle response.

It's a tough call in the end as both are pretty versatile drivers with similar box models and THD characteristics.
