Sundown SA-12 or Image Dynamics ID12v3?

Well, the only thing steering me away from the SA's are SPL reviews I have read. To me, from what I read all over different forums is that the sub is mainly SPL, but SQ people like it as well. I watched videos also to get extra information and it seemed like everyone bought that sub just to be loud. Which isn't what my goal is.

If the SA's are definitely better than I may as well just get them then and feed them 1114rms. I just didn't want to go back down the route of SPL (Kicker, alpine type r) days and not have that clean sound I've been wanting. Ya know? Plus no one around here has ever heard of SA or Dayton so it'll be nice to not have what everyone else has.

Like for example, I wanna throw in a mix CD and play "Monkey Wrench" by Foo Fighters and not have the drum & bass sound muddy and then play a Young Jeezy song off his Thug Motivation 101 and have that nice back massage feeling. But not sound like **** at the same time. TOO loud/boomy to where you can't enjoy it.

If the SA's are like that, then I'll more than likely go with those then if I can't power the Daytons properly right now. But if the Daytons are more like that sound I want and can do good on 787rms for now, I'll get those.

Have you looked at the HF version of the Daytons? I personally don't like the way the HOs model. The lows look like they **** on the HOs. If I were to get Daytons, it would be HFs.

BTW, you shouldn't have much trouble getting some SPL from the design of that box, especially how it loads the subs off the glass. Going for SQ subs is the ticket, as you won't have any trouble getting output in such a configuration.

Now see, I read HF reviews and it seemed like they weren't as good as the HO's.

Never thought subwoofer decision could be this hard. lol

3.3? Ok, I'm confused now, but I've never heard a Dayton sub anyway. How much face does your box have? If 15 inches, you could run a pair of JBL P1222 (or P1224) subs and get SQ for days. (Their frame measures 14 5/8 inches). I posted a link, but I guess the mods have to approve it. A couple JBL GTO 12s would work well in that box too. I'm a bit of a JBL fan, except their brand new MS line of subs look pretty lame. 7mm Xmax? Pretty gay.

According to the PartsExpress site, it says 3.3cf. Unless that's for home theater. I don't know.....

Since I don't want to order a new amp until later down the road, I'll probably just end up with the SA's and cross my fingers that they are the sound I am wanting. I don't know if I can live with getting the Daytons and only giving them 787rms. It'd be kind of a waste, imo. Wish I knew they didn't come in 2ohm before I got my heart set on them.

Are the Daytons single 4 ohms each? If so, running parallel will drop it to 2 ohms at the amp. The JBL amp is rated at 2ohms, right?

idk who ur listening to but that's just not true..intact is designed to sound excellent..

the biggest difference is it does great ported as well which alot of those so called SQ subs spiders are big ideal for it nor are the designed for it because the misconception is ported doesn't sound good..

if you could read the dumax you wouldn't hesitate to grab one..

very few manufactures you coils that can handle power compression better for it's power rating not only that but they use a shorting ring that also acts like a heatsink..

the spiders last a he'll of alot longer as well..

the Dayton is a nice woofer but I'm sorry it's just not engineered as well as the sa..
Daytons have a shortening ring //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif and they are engineered perectly many many holes for ventilation all over. It's ok though opinion appreciated.

This is the Daytons in my system which doesn't have the Big3 finished or HO alt in yet, or a big battery so keeping it safe I have gain at 40% and this video is before breakin, they will get louder and stay as clean as they sound now. They are operating on about 480watts right now.http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xlr8rt_2-dayton-hos_auto

The distortion data is telling you what you need to know -- the SA isn't an "SPL woofer" -- it is in fact designed with low distortion in mind.

They are so often used in SPL setups as they are so incredibly durable for their price -- which does not detract at all from the low distortion aspect.

There are a few SQ type reviews around and everyone has been very pleased :

The Dayton drivers are quite capable as well but you are getting less linear x-max (claimed 12mm... have seen tests around 14mm) and a bit less ruggedness. At the current SA-12 sale price there is essentially no price difference either.

the SA's and the Daytons would be an awesome choice either way, the SAs are sturdy if you don't have the cleanest power the SAs might be a good choice for you. I think the daytons respond more to lowwer wattage, but really you wouldn't be dissapointed either way i'm sure. For your setup I'd maybe go with the SA as the dayton is optimized for a slightly smaller enclosure. And the SA's are on sale now so they are reasonable.

Thanks for all the info and advice. That link you sent sundownz helped. Seemed like that person listens to mainly rock and that's the same boat I am in. I am sure they sound god on rap as well. Looks like that's what I will end up getting. Woofersetc has them for a good price.

Once I get them next week I'll post some pics in this thread and post a small review. Going to end up with the dual 2ohm so I can feed them bad boys 1114rms.

OP you should try and find a Boston Acoustics G5 series. They are discontinued and very hard to find but they have excellent sq- the best I have heard imo. I have a pair of the 12s and ran them in 1.2 sealed and 1.95 ported and they do excellent in both. I can listen to anything from Atreyu to Eric Clapton to Young Jeezy to acid jazz and they hit all the notes. They do fall off around 70hz or so but who wants to hear that high **** anyway, the hpf on my mono is at 80hz anyway. The Bostons are very efficient and take very little power to get going.

I'd love to try the HO's but if they don't come in SVC or 2ohm DVC then I think it would be pointless since I won't be giving them enough power. I didn't plan on getting another amp until way later down the road.

So, I'll end up getting the SA's unless they do have SVC or 2ohm DVC HO's that I haven't found yet. Which doesn't look like they do.

And as for Bostons, I was actually looking into the Boston G5124, because I heard they were good for SQ, too, and work well in small enclosures. But they cost half more of what the SA's would, or the HO's.
