Sundown 3000D vs. Incriminator Audio 40.1

Incriminator Audio is the distributor and "maker" of the amps, if you will. they have some new ones in the plans but you can find older ones on the boards around.

i had a sundown3k on 2 2400's and stock alt resting voltage was 14.3 and it never dipped below 13.5 for long plays very solid amp without a dought more then 3k watts i had a VFL400.1 and rockford 3k and the sundown was louder but the rockford was close but much more of a current hog oh ya just another lil side note stock alt voltage dropped to 13.5 with a EA 300a voltage dropped to 11.1 lol

haha what that doesnt seem right

The 20.1 is very under-rated. It'll easily do 2k+watts on 12v. Just because you had the gain set @ 1/2 way doesn't mean the amps were putting out anywhere near the same power. That's just a silly statement and this was a silly comparison. Get a dmm and a clamp put on the two then try that comparison again.
I had my 20.1 set with a dmm. Never did with the 3k because i know i wouldnt have ran it to its full potential.

IMO, the only way to prove one is a power hog over the other, is to use both at simular voltages. (using the gain to mach so they are putting out the same power) run some test tones though them with a clamp to see what will draw more power.

I have owned both amps and have been pleased with them. I really don’t have one bad thing to say about either. It’s clear the 40.1 makes more power and I didn’t think the IA was much of a current hog.

Setting with a dmm does not guarantee any specific power output. You can't just assume that you had those two amps putting out even remotely similiar power because of where you had the gain set.

The true way to measure efficiency is to bench each amp within it's own operating specs. You must clamp the input dc power and output ac power then calculate the efficiency of each amp.

Trying to calculate the efficiency of a 4kwatt amp by only running it at 3kwatts will throw everything off.

I think a Sundown 3000D vs a IA 30.1 would be a much better topic and a more fair test! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Unless you used both amps in the same setup or tested input/output consistently how will you know which is more efficient. You may have ran 3000w amp x in an old install and your voltage was fine, you change subs/box and 3000w amp y pulls mad current. With box rise maybe your looking at 3 maybe 4ohm or more...of course it won't pull much and it will be efficient at that level.

Guessing certain amps are more efficient at different loads than others as well. What may be the sweet spot for one amp may make another pull current like a hog.

just thinkin out loud here. Hard to really compare unless you are doing dropins in your particular setup.
