suggest me a laptop and i'll <3 you.

In my opinion, you don't need a large SSD. I use my SSD just for the operating system and use my spin up drive for my files. You can always sell the HDD on craigslist or something and buy a SSD, they are coming down in cost a lot. If you need more storage, look into an external drive. You'll have the speed you need with the SSD and the only time it'll slow down is when you plug the USB drive in on occasion for other files.

The GPU is something people overlook a LOT. You can't just look into the amount of ram, you have to take into consideration the frequency it runs at, the GPU frequency, etc. Lenovo has a good reputation for computer, Sony does too... it's really a matter of opinion on the brand, at least to me. I'd pick lenovo because they have amazing support.

i always loved macs but i hear that they've had a very bad year or two with viruses. i guess they're not as bullet proof as i thought/wished they were. but yeah, lots of people say asus and lenovo are great. just make sure to get a decent warranty. hope you find a nice one.

I have no fact of the matter in this argument on the topic, but you do seem to be a dickfor the sake of being able to.. way to go mod power!
Nope. I have a BS CIS degree. I know and use computers in a corporate environment on a daily basis. If I wanted to be a dick for the sake of it Id ban everyone in here who recommended shitty products and companies.

As with any PC it depends on what you do with it.

Based on those specs low end by todays standards. Back in the day Im sure it was awesome. My laptop used to be top of the line 4 years ago. Now I would consider it mid range at best.

I base my judgments not only on specs, but also quality. In 2010 or 2011 the leading laptop manufacturer in terms of quality was Asus with a score of 900 and some odd points. The next best quality was Apple with a score of 300 some odd points. Asus shattered every PC manufacturer in terms of quality. There is a reason they are more expensive. Some times taking a small hit on the CPU speed is worth the hassle instead of paying for shipping and having a laptop being repaired under warranty.

Even the components used can make a big difference. AMD CPU's are known to run extremely hot. Couple that with a restrictive laptop chassis and a dedicated GPU you may have heat issues and cause premature failure on a bunch of components. Ive seen it first hand. HP did it with their DV6000 series of laptops. Almost every one of them had failure with premature hard drive failure and GPU issues due to heat.
