looking for a laptop. 14.4" screen or under.

must have a third gen i5-i7.

be overall decent.

under $800.

like lit up keyboard.. not necessity.

CD drive isnt a big deal with out without.

but yeah. heres what im looking at:

IdeaPad Y480 14" Laptop | Shop | Lenovo | (US)

otherwise find me a nice piece.

pretty much stuck on lenovo and ASUS. but i might sway other.

find me a nice one and ill owe you a favor.

box design, nudies, etc.

If you got the cash, go bigger than you think you might need, especially if you want it to last a while. If you're just going to upgrade again in a year or two an i5 will do fine for now. I like Asus.

u wouldn't go for 999? I just got a sony vaio sve14a27cxh from best buy . core i7 with 8gb ddr3 ram, 2gb dedicated ATI graphics card 1tb hard drive and touchscreen windows 8. I ******* love this laptop so much power for the money and I must say, theres no way anyone should buy a windows 8 laptop without having touchscreen

oh yeah go check best buy for clearance, last week when I was in best buy, I saw the asus zenbook with core i7 on clearance for like 769 I believe and the specs on that are beast. I think it was deh

The diff. generations are really about heat. I think the old ones were 65nm? the new ones are 32?

Anyway, one of the more important bottlenecks that people don't look at is GPU... the lenovo is better than the Asus imo.

I just grad. w/ CS degree. CPU, RAM, and GPU... then look into a SSD if you want it to be really fast and everything else after that to fit your needs (i.e.; blueray, bluetooth, dvd, etc.)

Sony sucks and so does Windows 8.

not running sony. period.

and yeah. GPU im not familiar with much.

i understand ram, hdd and ssd cache. and processor. but okay. well youd reccomend Lenovo. then my issue becomes this, most lenovo's dont run with SSD cache, or Sizeable SSD until the 1k price. i cant swing much over $800. id even prefer 750. i enjoy the look of asus for the nice size processor, and a 500gb spinning drive plus 24gb ssd chache seems pretty well designed. but im open to any opinion.

oh okay. cuz u know everything about every laptop to come out. and windows 8 blows every windows version out. a lot better and easier to use and seems much more snappier. this sony will out perform ur asus.
