Subzero's 2016 Cruze SQ Build Log

was talking about the head unit.

Oh I got you, yeah but Its not about the name either - id go to pioneer too if I knew it was better in my price range. I got the ddx-573 bh for 237$. It's nice so far and those are my 2 top dogs kenwood and pioneer - maybe alpine but have not had one since the cassette days, lol

I was looking for specific features. I know the newer pioneer stuff isnt as nice as the earlier stuff, but It was a pretty good deal. I didnt want to keep hunting for something. If I do change this in the future, it will be for a top of the line audiophile head unit. Certainly this pioneer is better than the oem.

Choices Choices. Focal 27KX for full time SQ duties. Baby bass for whenever I feel like changing up to ported lows.

So you have a sub in the trunk and two fosgates or what?

Talk me through your 8(?)s in the door You just screwed(glued?) the baffle to the door. Glassed to for a little contour for more oem look? What about deadening. What about sealing to the actual door? Seems like your trying to rattle your door card to pieces

lol...so many sub choices to choose from tho...genius.

Want sq? The Focal sub will take care of that. A little more bass/low bass, the twin 6.5s subs....more SPL, the RF will def do that.

The Focal sub is disconnected. The Frosgate 15s are the only subs playing right now.

The JBL 8s: I stacked baffle rings, glued, then used kitty hair to bond to panels. Then I made baffle rings contoured to the front side of the door panel for a flat mounting surface. I attach jbl midbass to the door with lag screws. I attach panel to the door and couple wooden baffles to the door speaker opening. The Door has deadener all on the inner and outer skin sealing it and the inner cavity has denim ultra touch insulation wrapped in plastic for rear wave sound absorption.

These doors are sturdy solid as ****.

I took the lil 6.5 subs out. that was just to test. them out. The focal will be retiring also. just haven't pulled it yet.

Frosgate 15s where pulled out and sold. They didn't do the trick. But they did ok for one competition:

I built a battery rack for the comp and demos:

pics will upload later. work *****.

If you don't mind me asking, how did the aftermarket radio workout for you? Did you lose functionality with some car features? Any unforeseen problems that gave you issues after the install? Does the stock display still show some items, such as the heating and cooling setting when you change them, temp, time etc.? Do steering wheel controls work at all? The reason I ask is because I have the 2012 chevy cruze LS and lately have been thinking about swapping out the head unit for an aftermarket upgrade but I have read so many horror stories of so many problems in doing so. I am decently knowledgeable with car audio but I just didn't wanna get myself into a Pandoras box with it either. I am currently at a crossroad, I have done a loc off the rear channels for the subs but now getting ready to redo/replace the doors mids and highs and add a second amp to the new sets I install. Just trying to plan it all out but debating which way to go, another loc off the remaining channels or upgrade the receiver. Any input you have I'd appreciate. Thanks
