Subwoofer Smell

Good Morning,

Here is what I have. I have a Rockford fosgate P3 10inch sub in the rockford fosgate box. The newer model sub. I have a Rockford fosgate T500 amp hooked up to it. The sub is a 500 rms sub. I had it for a year in my ford fusion and played it hard for hours with no smell or anything coming from it. Gain has never changed. I do have a bass boost knob, but barely even turn that up at all. I currently bought a new 2013 F150. Got a professional to run the wires for me and hook everything up. I can now play it for about 5 minutes and it starts to smell as if the voice coil is burning up. Any suggestion? Check the gain level? Too much power for sub? Like I said it never did this in my other vehicle. The subwoofer and amp are what my avatar picture is btw.

Check the gain level.

If you switched vehicles (and the 'new' vehicle has a different head unit) your probably dealing with a different input voltage...

Leave the stupid bass boost knob at zero. Bass boost is bad unless you know what your doing.

0 bass boost and on the headunit set it to flat...
