subwoofer shipping crate

You need to bolt the driver into a baffle. The baffle needs to be screwed to standoffs that will cover the basket and motor assembly and I would add a support for the magnet. Additionally a second panel to cover the cone and surround spaced off the baffle would be a very good idea. I would also make the whole thing out of 3/4" plywood.

Ply wood is stronger than MDF and weighs less. Build it like a sub box with a support for the motor and recess the baffle into the box enough that you can screw a top on it to cover the cone. Brace the corners the full heighe of hte box. Ship it via freight shipping and make sure it is labeled "HEAVY" and "FRAGILE." The freight guys will be better equipped to handle a heavy crate IMO and less likely to drop it. Make sure it is insured either way.

Wrapping it in newspaper won't meet the criteria for "adequately packed" for something that heavy and thus wouldn't be insurable.

When some ****ers see FRAGILE they throw it around more.

I wanted to put Fragile on a package I was shipping out through ups and the girl there advised me other wise. She said they will just throw it around to get a laugh.
