I am piecing together a recone for a Dayton HO 15'' since to send it in is the same price as a new sub. Here are the specs of the frame/motor I measured using a digital caliper:

Pole OD = 2.53''

Gap = .145''

Top Plate ID = 2.82"

Spider landing to top plate = 1.113"

Distance from top of pole to back plate = 2.089"

Surround landing to spider landing = 3.5"

Frame OD = 15 1/4''

Spider Landing= 7.5''

I am looking at using the following parts from Ebay:

cone:

15" Subwoofer Cone CN1512 | eBay

voice coil:

2 5" Alpine Type R Voice Coil Dual 4 Ohm ALPINERD4 | eBay

spider:

7 5" x 2 5" Subwoofer Spider Damper with Leads XHDZ040 2 | eBay

dust cap:

7" 178mm Carbon Fiber Dust Cap Subwoofer Recone Speaker | eBay

I have a Hobby Town close so I will get the rubberized CA glue from there. Does this look like a good plan? I was thinking I may have to get some spacers for the motor for correct voice coil placement. Any suggestions?

I am far from a guru but I thought the type r had a 2.6" coil

my fault just looked at your measurements. its 2.58 id 2.73 od

Yeah, that's the only coil I found that seems like it will work with this sub. The only thing that worries me is that they Type R has much more Xmax than the HO 15, which leads me to believe I might have to space the motor out due to a longer coil. I guess I'll just have to see or hope someone knows LOL

I'll sit down and do that this evening. I didn't even snap that I had all the specs to do that. Thanks for the insight.

Do the math and see how much rearward clearance you will have with the coil centered to topplate.
