Hey guys,

I have an 06 x5 with the DSP sound system (kinda *****).

I am looking for something that will get DEEP and sounds GREAT. I really dont want LOUD/RATTLE. I am thinking a bigger sub like a 15 to get the deep tones I am looking for. Preferably i want to run as low of wattage as possible. The BMW electrical system is delicate enough..

Any recomendations new/used subs and amp combo for my simple needs. Looking to spend under $2-300. I only dabble in car audio every few years. My last setup was 2 15" type-rs on an audio que. There are so many brands now my head is spinning.

I dont want to do the stupid consumer thing and overpay for a JL for quality

How does an SDC2.5-15 and a AQ 750 sound? I was very happy with the AQ2200D

I have 2 rockford fosgate punch hx2 12's for $250 shipped.

Dual 4 ohm, 3" coil. under-rated for sure.

As far as deep bass etc, it is all in the box design. A ****** box will give you ****** sound.

thanks for the reply. I dont know why but RF and xplode and Kicker usually seem cheap to me. This is a completely uneducated media and advertising sensitive biased.

I am thinking about sealed...

I am thinking; SA, RE, AQ, or ?

Well the big question is how much room do you want to sacrifice?

Are you set on sealed?

For the record, the new RE stuff is quite crappy according to some people on here.

Sundown or Audioque would be my choice depending on how much you want to spend.

If you are looking to get loud on low power, look for subs with high sensitivity ratings.

I am not 100% set on sealed, But I want to do so because of space. I Would like to take up as little space as possible. Any suggestions for subs with high sensitivity?

Thanks

What is the amount of space you are willing to use?
Also, there is far more to a subwoofer then just the sensitivity rating.

The trunk is big enough to use, I just dont want anything HUGE. Preferably only the size of the sub...

With the AQ sale the 2.5 series 12 or 15 and 750 mono block for $300 shipped sounds like a great deal

rabit have you ever built something custom for the side of the trunk in an x5? there is a good amount of room behinde the doors...

If you can spend a lot of money, consider JBL W15GTI. These are among the best SQ subwoofers, at any price. If you want something cheap, consider the new Alpine Type-S (SWS-15D2/D4). These are very cheap, but they use underhung voice coil which promises better SQ. These supposedly sound very good in 2cu ft sealed. 500watts RMS power handling. You don't want to exceed that.

If 2cu ft is too big, consider Scanspeak Discovery 12 or Peerless XXLS 12, which are sold by madisound, in a 1.5cu ft sealed. These are good SQ subwoofers with very good sensitivity, low inductance, and will dig deep. They are clones of each other, but Scanspeak is supposed to be better, being built in Europe.
