Subwoofer problemo

K so for the past month I've been running 2 DD 2512s at 1.5k total, but my box is on the small side. It's about 3.5 cubic feet after all displacements and tuned at 40hz. Other than the box being tuned a bit too high for my liking, I've heard from a lot of DD users that the box is way too small. Although it's the exact space DD recommends for a pair of 12s in a compact size box I feel like I'm missing out.

I have no more trunk room to sacrifice, and from what I've heard if I switched to a pair of DD 2510s I'd be louder and it would sound better if they were in a box about at big as the one I currently have. I'm obviously losing quite a bit of cone space though. What are yall's opinions on this? I'm contemplating getting another box built and moving down to the 2510s if it makes that much of a difference.

I'm also contemplating a pair of 12's that work best in smaller boxes, or a good 15. I have 1.5k to run to em'

That is not what DD recommends lol. They say 2.25-2.5 per 12 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

As for the space you have. You can stick with DD and do a single 12 or dual 10s.

If you want to change up what you have then you do like dual SA12s or similar.

well were you lookin to get loud? i just say do one nice 15.
I may, but it'd have to be one that works best in smaller boxes.

Add more power.. What 1.5K are you running and can your electrical keep up with it
Big Three in 1/0 gauge, XS D3400 and 160 amp alternator. I drop to 13.8 at full tilt, I'm running a DD M1B which should be 1500 at 14.4.

Thanks for letting me know my box tuning as well. 45hz FTL:crap: You'll have another PM in a sec

I didn't intentionally have it tuned that high. To be honest I'm a complete noob at ported boxes, I ran sealed ones up until a few months ago. I was told that it would be tuned between 38-40hz, which is wasn't but I trusted the guy who built it.

I was surprised how bad it sounded at times. My last setup consisted of 2 Memphis PR 12s tuned at 36hz, and those seemed deeper than my DDs! Now I know why.

Here is my .02...

I am running a 3512 in my truck now in 2 cuft with 36" of port tuned to 44hz. I also have/had(just sold 3 days ago or so) a 2512.

The 2512 did NOT like the box at all. Well I had built a 2.5 cuft box with 43" of port and tuned to 38hz.

IMO, in my application, the 3512 preforms and sounds better in the 2cuft box then it did in the larger. The 2512 was the opposite.

Well everyones says it's too small but considering I've ran my 2510 in everything from a 1-2cube box and personally found 1.27cubes to sound best I don't really see that box as small. The thing about small boxes is you need bigger ports I had 1 4inch port on a box that was mentioned above. I think you should be fine with the box but what's limiting you here is the power on tap. The 2500 series seems to like around 1000-1500 per sub. Hell I ran 2k to my ten for a little while.

I would look into getting a box tuned a little lower 38hz IMHO is perfect for the 2512 with a nice sized port 14-16sq inches per cube. And maybe find a bigger amp. Smaller boxes require more power than larger boxes to get loud but I find them to be more accurate at reproducing impact bass which is my personal taste. I know the 2500 series really well and I can tell you you need 1 more power or 2 a bigger box tuned a bit lower

That's interesting to hear. I wish I had the power to properly run a pair of the 3500 series. I've already spent a lot on this last build, and my options are kind of limited as to what I can change in my current setup.

I should be able to eek out a little more space to make a new box a little bigger. I know for sure that I'll be getting a new one, seeing that my current one is tuned pretty high. I definitely know that ALL of DD subs are underrated, and the sweet spot for 2500s seems to be 1-1.5k from what I've heard. I may end up getting another XS battery if I go that route, I'm currently running everything off an XS3400 which replaced my starter battery.
