Subwoofer making unusual sounds

My buddy bought a hifonics bzr15d4 and put it in a floor standing ported box(27 9/16 x 20 1/2 x 12 9/16) HWD and i gave him my 250 sony xplod amp bridged@4-8ohms and the woofer at 8ohms. when we had the sub wired to 2ohms it cut out but didnt have the odd noise, so we figured matching the ohms would work and it doesnt cut out at 8Omhs but the sub woofer seems to have an odd noise when the bass hits. To me it sounded like a fart when it hit low notes as if the woofer wasn't working. And it sound like this at all times but you could really tell when the lowest notes hit. Please dont say of well those brand are junk, its not my stuff just helping a friend. if somebody would kind enough to explain what the problem is that'd be great. thanks
