Subwoofer getting hot

it doesnt matter how many watts your running, if your clipping the signal by any means, your gonna burn some subs, i'd recommend you learn how to tune your setup with a at least a digital multimeter on a -6 db test tone first.
Check the voice coils of the burned one compared to the not burned one and see what ohms they read.

depending on the box design, one sub might have a lot less head dissapation then the other or have too much mechanical efficiency take a picture of the box and show us on here.
I have pics of my box i just dont know how to post them

I'd bet these subs are wired wrong.
Well I'm pretty sure i wired them wright just maybe a wire disconnected or something. I wired the positive and negative wires from one sub to the other and then from that sub i sent wires to the amp

Rewiring the subs won't help.... a 1Ω load at the amp is a 1Ω load at the amp regardless of whether the subs are wired together in the box or separately outside the box.

As for pics, if you have a photobucket or some other image hosting account, you can link to photos on that account by clicking the picture frame at the tool bar on top of the posting window.

As for what the problem may actually be...

Depending on how the box is designed, one sub may not be cooling properly, which has already been mentioned. Ported boxes aren't too complicated but port location with respect to sub location is important.

With Type R subs I've seen bad connections where the tinsel leads meet the terminals and if that's the case with one of your subs, it could be causing the sub to get hot. You likely wouldn't have noticed it in a sealed box because you can't easily smell a hot coil when it's locked away in a closed chamber.

Lastly, as has also already been mentioned, "half way" means nothing. If the gain is half way and your preamp signal is above 2 volts, you are clipping the subs. If your bass boost is half way, you are most likely clipping the subs. If your crossover is half way, you're most likely asking the subs to play frequencies above their efficiency. If your infrasonic (subsonic) filter is half way, you're missing out on some really nice low end response. If all are half way, you're lucky the subs aren't already blown. ;-)

Thanks for that help. i have them wired to 4 ohms and does anyone have an estimate of what a car audio store would charge to tune my subs? Also do i need to use my lp filter because I have that set really low. Also i have subsonic shut off

Every shop has different rates so no, no one can tell you what one would charge unless they're quoting for that shop.

Your low pass filter should be set at 80Hz to begin with. From there, you can adjust up or down to suit your taste. And with a ported box you need to use the infrasonic filter. It should be set about 5-10Hz below tuning. If you don't use it, you stand the chance of over excursion below tuning, which can result in damage to your subs.

It'd be worth your time to simply read up on what everything means when it comes to tuning your amp. That way you'll know; not only for yourself, but possibly helping friends in the future as well. Learn what every setting means and how to set it appropriately. You can do just about everything you need to if you have a multimeter and a decent head on your shoulders.

I'd say pull your subs out check ur wiring then buy a multimeter get a test tone I use 50 hz and set ur amp at 0 all across go to Voltage current resistance and electric power general basic electrical formulas mathematical calculations calculator formula calculating energy equation power watts understandimg general electrical pie chart electricity calculation electrical voltage and put ur info in it will tell u where to set ur multimeter too.. 4 ohm and how much power your gonna put to them rms not peak.. There are many videos online to help you with setting your amp with a multimeter

With no pics no one can help , the way your explaining the wiring is confusing, post to face book and share a link or make a youtube video and share it that will get things sone alot faster for you

How long do you think it takes to learn how and tune the amp?
