Subwoofer getting hot

I have two subs and i wired them to 4ohms and one of them is staying cool and the other is getting hot. When it gets hot i can kinda smell a burning smell i just got a new box and haven't had this problem before. Also instead of connecting one sub to the other can i just connect them both directly to the amp and still be at 4ohms? Thanks for the help guys

Turn loud off on the headunit, turn bass down to 0 or flat, turn off bass boost on the amp. Whats the gain at?
I know I'm not over powering my subs because I have a 2000 watt amp powering alpine type r's and everything is set about half way i haven't had this problem until i just switched from my sealed box to ported

"everything being set about half way" doesn't mean anything unless you set it with a multimeter.
Haha i dont really know how to tune an amp i just turned it up to. Half way and it worked for me until I got my new box and one sub started getting hot im gonna probly take out my box and recheck my wires make sure its all good. And also can i just directly wire my subs to my amp and still be at 4ohms?

if ur subs are wired at 4ohms then ur amp would see the 4 ohms.

Perhaps one coil is disconnected? Whats the model number on the Type Rs and the amp?

I had one sub getting hot before too, one of the wires for one coil came off so it was running on one coil.

I think they are 12d4 i know there the newest 12" alpine type r and my amp is the alpine mrpm2000

But i do believe its probly my wireing im gonna have to check it all because I've never had this problem the only thing I've changed was my box so maybe when i required it a wire came out or something

All i know is I'm not running many watts to those subs and they can handle a lot more
it doesnt matter how many watts your running, if your clipping the signal by any means, your gonna burn some subs, i'd recommend you learn how to tune your setup with a at least a digital multimeter on a -6 db test tone first.

Check the voice coils of the burned one compared to the not burned one and see what ohms they read.

depending on the box design, one sub might have a lot less head dissapation then the other or have too much mechanical efficiency take a picture of the box and show us on here.

This is exactly what I was going to say.

OP, you can't just turn the gain up halfway and call it good. Regardless of the amp's size, it's more than capable of sending out a clipped signal. And clipped signals smoke subs.

As far as the heat issue goes, I'd recommend you resetting your gain properly and then, if the problem persists, check your wiring.

And post some info on the box up for us. Cubic feet/chamber, pictures, anything helps.

3.1cuft 33hz and i dont know how to post pics

Also does anyone know how to properly tune the alpine mrpm2000? I really dont know much about amp but i know this amp has a lot more settings than my old amp. Also if it was the way i set my gain then why does only one sub get hot? And the sub that is getting hot is the one getting the power from the amp and it seems to hit a little harder than my other sub

Do you have a digital multimeter?
