I read yesterday that if you have a sealed box you are supposed to turn the subsonic filter on your amp completely....why is this? Probably a stupid question but I guess I have never really thought about it. Thanks.
are you saying it is can increase the power handling with the filter on or off?It can increase the power handling of the sub actually. As the frequency played gets lower, the excursion increases exponentially with the same amount of power. If you have enough power that you are approaching max excursion at around 40Hz, you will well exceed the limit with 30Hz. If you use a SSF to limit the low freq, you can turn it up without worrying about it.
Well, since turning it off would be the same a not having it, how could it do anything when off? Turning it on and using it to limit overexcursion at low freqs is the only answer that makes sense now isn't it?are you saying it is can increase the power handling with the filter on or off?
Typically a good setting is about 1/2 octave below the tuning frequency. Allows you to retain a little better low frequency extension while still adequately protecting the subwoofer.so should a SSF in a vented box be tuned to what the box is tuned to? or what?
