subsonic filter on sealed boxes...

The purpose of a SSF is to protect your subwoofer from playing freq that would normally damage your driver in a vented box. It's based on the tuning frequency of the box, but since your box is sealed, it doesn't deal with tuning frequencies and ultimately a SSF is completly useless for you. Long story short it doesn't benifit you @ all.

It can increase the power handling of the sub actually. As the frequency played gets lower, the excursion increases exponentially with the same amount of power. If you have enough power that you are approaching max excursion at around 40Hz, you will well exceed the limit with 30Hz. If you use a SSF to limit the low freq, you can turn it up without worrying about it.

are you saying it is can increase the power handling with the filter on or off?

so should a SSF in a vented box be tuned to what the box is tuned to? or what?
Typically a good setting is about 1/2 octave below the tuning frequency. Allows you to retain a little better low frequency extension while still adequately protecting the subwoofer.
