Subs

ok... thanks. the reason im wondering is im planning to build a sub box in my shop class and i dont have an amp yet so i was wondering if i need to just wait and get an amp before the sub would work

They CAN be powered from the HU, but you will get much better results powering them with an amp.

Actually, they can't. Unless the HU has a low pass cross over built, so you can make X channel(s) to have some sort of a # db slope. You'll blow a driver trying to play it at full range.

Not to mention, most subs now a days (especially the cheaper ones) are inefficient, with the most not even producing much sound until 100 or so watts.

geowick is right, they will work but will be being underpowered... you wont really hear them. i did this once and it was not even close to the output i was looking for, almost non-existant. what kind of subs are these?

ive still got 2 months til i even get my license so its not a big deal right now but im making about 130 a week so anything around there... im mainly just wantin to get the system put together before i start drivin it
