Subs work but not the speakers?????

Just installed my system into my newly purchased 1997 Jeep Cherokee and I have a strange problem I could use some help with. The subs I put in are working correctly but the only time my interior speakers work is when the stereo is in tuner mode, otherwise i get no sound from the interior speakers. My only thought is the deck has gone bad but if that's not the case, please let me know!

can you give us more detail such as what your running how its hooked up etc.

My deck is a Kenwood KDC-X494 connected to 2 12" Kicker Comp's powered by a 1ch 800 watt Soundstream amp. The interior speakers are stock.

Are you running the speakers off an external amp and/or do you have a factory amp? I could see how one could easily mix up the power antenna wire and the remote wires such that the speaker amp only turns on when the antenna would.

They r connected to the deck but I have a factory amp under the back seat. That might be what I did by accident. Thanks I'll switch the wires and see what happens.

Alright! Let me know how that turns out. I did a hu install on a Buick with a factory amp and i remember I had think it through a bit.

So I weighed them around and that didn't work. I'm think I might have to splice 3 wires together. What you said really seems like its the problem so I'm confused as to why its not working still.

Yeah that is weird. Try pulling it it and hitting them with a multimeter. Both the antenna remote and amp remote wires should give off something in the neighborhood of 12 volts. If one becomes active when you switch the tuner on and your speakers kick in, well, there ya go. And yeah. I don't remember if I mentioned it or not, but I did an install on a Buick with a factory amp and a sub amp and that's exactly what I did. Just twisted the factory amp and sub amp remotes together and connected them both to the amp remote on the back of the hu. Seemed to work like a charm.
