Subs too big for IB in trunk?

Hey, I Try.
So ive been doing some reading on IB applications in a car and the consensus seems to be you want your rear wave to have 4-10x the vas of the drivers used.

If you look at say something build specifically for IB like the FI Ib15. It has a Vas of 114liters which is 4 cuft. Obviously a trunk doesnt have anywhere near 16-40 cuft. So im curious. When in a car and not home audio. At what point is throwing say two 18s in a trunk(if you could fit them) actually a bad idea for IB considering the back wave would simply be in too small a "box".

That’s the little single 6.5 inch enclosure. The Savard did just as well as the RDS. These subs do well in ported or 6th orders but not as well...
