hey guys im putting a sound system in my boat and i listen to alot of music so im putting a 12'' and a 10'' sub in but want to be in control of what one is playing for what kind of music, would it be to any harm to put a switch on the negative terminal of the 12'' sub so when i flip the switch it completes the conection and the sub will work, or would that be hard on the amp to all the sudden just hook a sub up while it is turned on?

im very piky when it comes to subs, i know the sound i like and thats what i stick with, plus i already have the 10 and 12 to work with, i just am asking if it would be bad to run a switch on the subs, i dont need your opinion on what subs sounds best with what.

let the guy build what he wants, he obviously KNOWS what he is talking about.

if you are gonna do it, do what i suggested

techicnally no it is not going to hurt, would be the same as unhooking the sub. If you do it correctly.

you seem like a real know-it-all so why are you asking for help?

You statement about a 12" blowing with rock is ludachris.

I listen to mostly death/thrash metal, punk anything really and i use a single 12" ported and it hasn't blown up yet.

you dont need both subs you can just use one since the same sound can be achieved with either sub. stick around for a while and read up

http://www.bcae1.com read through it and you might learn something...then you can sell one of the subs end up with the sound you want and a little money in your pocket
