first time poster, ive been reading and searching for some time now. there is a problem i have encountered and can not fix.

it happened the other day at night while i was on my way home from my friends house. i was finishing up an alarm while one of my friend borrowed my car to get somethign for me. well, when i was driving home, my subs does not hit as hard anymore.

heres a list of things i did.

1. default the unit EQ to stock settings (IE remove neg off batt)

2. readjusted the gian with DMM

3. checked subs with DMM for resistants and scratching noise.

tomorrow i should have pretty much the whole day to figure out the problem. any advice/tips you guys have and/or what i should look into?

My system

Alpine 9855

Front: Alpine TypeR 6.5 cpmps

Rear: Stock (off when i dont have passenger)

Subs: 2x IDQ 10" D4 V2 prefab .65ft^3 per chamber 3/4"MDF

Amps: Rockford 160a2 amp for typeR + Hifonics 1000BX for the IDQ

Cables: PG & RF RCA, RF 4ga power, RF 12ga for speaker and sub

im not sure where this should be posted as it can be related to many things in my system, mods, pls move to proper class/sub-class.. ty

since you have a bx1000 & 2x IDQ, then you might have blown them. They reccomment 250w per piece. Your buddy probably cranked your sh*t up to see what you got and blew em //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif just a guess.

edit: reccomment? wtf

Ask your friend what he did and to be honest. Other than that, all you can really do is go through your system one step at a time and check. What did you have your subs wired to (I only ask because James' suggestion seems most logical)?

what do they sound like when you are listening to them up close. any scratchy sounds, rubbing, are they dual voice coil, if so one coil could have blown, tinsel could have snapped, etc. little more detail and we may be able to help a little more. your friend could have pushed them a little hard and pushed them past xmax.

my buddy already knows how hard it hit, hes the type of person that listen to moderate volumes and not blasting it loud. i knew him for years and he doesnt listen at high volumes. everytime hes in my car, he turns down my volume to around 9-12.

even tho i have a overhead amp for my subs, my gains are set properly at about 550 watts w/DMM @ 50hz tone 0dB @ volume 24. max i usually listen to is 15 if not then 18.

wierd thing is that my friends says the subs hit cleaner but not as hard as before. im stumped, im going to swap headunits with my friend tomorrow (same model), check all the wirings, and connection one more time.

i had this HU for close to a month now, hopefully its the HU. wished i still had the 7893 to to verify the problem.

they hit very soft while im in the driver side.

things i did to check the sub

DMM resistants on both coil wired @ 2ohms reads @ 1.8 on both subs (subs are D4. wired down to 1ohms with both sub)

tensils doesnt look like it snaped

checked with batterys both moves perfectly fine with no scratching noise

pushed sub in with hand and no scratching noise

so the subs look perfectly fine with no problems.

edit.. anyone think it can be the prefab boxs? maybe its leaking?

sounds like the subs are damaged, but still functional

I had this problem with 2 pioneer tsw306c's 12's in

3.6 cu ft^ NET @ 27 hz running off a Hifonics BD1500

everything was working perfectly, i drove up to the

lake front, system was slamming! Stayed there for

about 30 min. I went to leave and it sounded like my

subs weren't hitting no where near as hard. I couldn't

figure out what the problem was, and still haven't.

So the only logical explaination to me is that the subs are

damaged, but still functional.

P.S. - make sure the amp is pushing AC current, not DC

if it is the box which is a possability then listen closely to the mounting hole, and edges where it was sealed. also may be the amp or the hu. so many things to check for but i wish i could tell you off hand but i would have to see it with the information ive got. keep posting updates with what you have done to troubleshoot the problem and im sure we will do our best to help. good luck

ive had this problem twice with my 1230w and profile amp. for some reason the gain on my amp keeps getting turned down just enough to notice that its hitting but not hitting as hard as it was. i turn it just a lil bit and it goes back to normal. i have noticed the gain on the amp is a lil bit loose but i havnt had time to fix it or try to fix it. not sure if thats whats happeing to you or not but just a suggestion. good luck getting it fixed tho.

by the way i had 2 10's do that too but they were blown. they would come on and bump and then get real quite and make a scratchy sound, and then come back on and bump for about 10 mins or so and go back off. i just threw them away tho.

bad connection on the tinsels i just saulderd one on a infinity ref 1230 yesterday for a friend. also what you stated about the amp and the gain acting wierd thats actually very common for some manufacturers could be a possibility. known on the old lanzar vibe amps and the obcon amps

dude, check your RCA's to the amp, make sure they are tight... if one comes loose it can make the sub sound very weak.. he might have played with gains too but I wouldn't expect that... anyways hope for the best and hopefully it's just a loose RCA
