Subs making unhealthy noise

Based on how loud it was on the video, it doesn't really sound like tinsel slap.

The dustcap could be loose or maybe one of the spiders came unglued @ the former. I say try playing it free air and see if you can tell where its coming from.

Coil cap probably came off of the top of the coil and is banging around inside the dust cover...

Only way you can fix it is by taking the cover off (carefully) and removing it and putting a new dust cover back on..

Not to threadjack, but my sub makes the same kind of noise, but only at very high excursion and over rated rms, and mainly on certain frequencies, so that should just be tinsel slap right? And is that bad for the sub? As in what are the chances of it seriouly damaging something?

You shouldn't have any mechanical noise period, if you do you are either unloading the subs, playing them below tuning frequency (if ported) or you are simply over powering them, or they are broken...due to abuse...

i think your first mistake was opening the trunk and then 'cranking it'... i was personally told and figured that when you do this, you are not giving the sub anything to load off of. I've seen people hammering their stuff in a hatch and then they open it while the thing is still cranked and the subs look like they want to jump right out of their own skin //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

So, I should take it out, and play it and see what it is? Also, I have a hatchback, so it is in like an open area anyways.

Had the same sound as well when the coil unwound from my sub as well.
