Subs Firing Down, Up, or Forward?

I have 3 (three) 12w3v2's (on a JL 1000/1) to put into a 2003 Tacoma Extended Cab (not crew cab) and was wondering what is the best way to fire them to get clean, tight bass? Subs Firing Down, Up, or Forward (at your back when sitting in the seats)? I am thinking a SEALED enclosure would be best.

Originally posted by Jmac I would fire them up ... but forward could also work well ...
So why not down? In my old setup, they made the box firing down with 2 JL 12w0's with a plexi-glass front with neons inside. It look great and sounded great. I still have that piece of plexi from the old setup...

I wouldn't fire them up simply for stealth reasons. First, I'd try it facing down by putting some temporary blocks, spacers, to see how it sounded. If it sounded good, I'd make it permanent. If it doesn't sound good, I'd experiment with firing forward or back. Personally, I like firing down. Most JL stealthboxes and MTX thunderforms for extended cab trucks, with back seats, fire down. I've tried all different ways and get a better bass response firing down. It looks stealth, no need for grills, and produces clean, tight bass.

Thanks. I believe this is the route I am going to take.

Additinally, no need to reference "max" anything as those specs are useless. Most of know how to look at specs for a given speaker, amp, HU, etc...

If they had an orange basket I would have to buy them.... Hmmmm Sell my 4 Xs and get 6 of those and do no-wall again with one more 4500.....

That’s the little single 6.5 inch enclosure. The Savard did just as well as the RDS. These subs do well in ported or 6th orders but not as well...

Look at the Alpine Type S subs.
